HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-43191RESOLUTION NO. ,43191 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, REQUESTING OFFICIALS OF THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT AND OTHERS TO CONSIDER LEGISLATION ENTITLED "A FEDERAL ANTI -RECESSION AND FULL EMPLOYMENT LAW" AND DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO FORWARD COPIES OF THE ATTACHED PROPOSED LAW, TO PERSONS DESIGNATED HEREIN. WHEREAS, the economic problems of the cities in the United States cannot be solved unless Federal legislation is enacted which will lead to a prosperous economy and one hundred percent full employment; and WHEREAS, Federal legislation proposed by the Ministers - Laymen Voter Registration Committee of Dade County, entitled "A Federal Anti -Recession and Full Employment Law" contains provisions which could possibly achieve the above goals; and WHEREAS, the proposed legislation requires very little funding and being locally administered, no bureaucracy need be established; and WHEREAS, a prosperous economy will produce an optimum degree of income for the City of Miami and thus improve the tax base for urban needs; and WHEREAS, it is a known fact that all large cities are interdependent, as well as all of the United States, for their mutual economic wellbeing; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: -1— "DOCUMENT INDEX ITEM NO. 5 ., CITY COMMtiSV c, r4 MEETING C F EB 3 1972 Wit`' ..................... Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Miami by passing this Resolution does not take, nor has it taken, any position on the merits of the "Federal Anti - Recession and Full Employment Law" but has passed this Resolution in the belief that all suggestions concerning legislation by the citizens of Miami and Dade County should be given as full a hearing and study as possible by the appropriate officials of the United States Government and others who would be concerned with such legislation. Section 2. That the City Commission hereby requests the officials of the United States Government and others to consider the attached legislation proposed by the Ministers - Laymen Voter Registration Committee of Dade County, entitled "A Federal Anti -Recession and Full Employment Law". Section 3. That the City Commission hereby requests the four (4) Florida members of Congress to: (a) Carefully study the above described legislation proposed by the Ministers - Laymen Voter Registration Committee of Dade County for their possible intro- duction of same. (b) To obtain hearings before the proper Congressional Committees by members of the Legislative Action Committee of the Ministers -Laymen Voter Registration Committee of Dade County. Section 4. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to forward copies of the attached proposed law, entitled "A Federal Anti -Recession and Full Employment Law", proposed by the Ministers -Laymen Voter Registration Committee of Dade County, to the following: President of the United States President of the United States Senate Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Two Florida Senators Two Florida Representatives Governor Reubin Askew Secretary of the United States Conference of Mayors All Presidential Candidates PASSED AND ADOPTED this 3rd day of February , 1972.
