contribution of $31,000 to Florida
International University Foundation
The City of Miami's District Four (4) Commissioner wishes to establish the "Rosado Miami Scholar
Award" scholarship initiative to provide need -based scholarships to Florida International
University ("FIU") undergraduate students who are City residents, prioritizing students in the FIU
College of Arts, Sciences & Education ("CASE") and who are facing emergencies.
The Florida International University Foundation, Inc. ("FIU Foundation"), a Florida not for profit
corporation, was established in 1969 to encourage, solicit, receive, and administer gifts for
scientific, educational, and charitable purposes for the advancement of FIU and its objectives; it is
registered by the State of Florida as a charitable organization and is approved by the U.S Internal
Revenue Service as tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization.
The Commissioner wishes to provide funds from the Commissioner's discretionary account in an
amount not to exceed Thirty -One Thousand and 00/100 Dollars ($31,000.00) to the FIU Foundation
to establish and implement the Scholarship.
RECOMMENDATION
In light of the above stated, approval of a waiver of the formal requirements of competitive sealed
bidding methods as not being practicable or advantageous to the City as set forth in the City Code of
Ordinances, as amended, specifically Section 18-85 (A), and the affirmation of these written
findings and the forwarding of the same to the City Commission for ratification by a fourth -fifths
vote is respectfully requested.
