AN ORDINANCE APPROVING THE AMENDMENT

AS AMENDED, CHANGING THE DATES OF THE
REGULAR AND PRIMARY ELECTIONS 8Y PRO- V
VIDING THAT THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL
ELECTION FOR,THE ELECTION OF COM-
MISSIONERS SHALL BE HELb ON THE SECOND
TUESDAY AFTER THE FIRST MONDAY IN
NOVEMBER IN ODD --NUMBERED YEARS, AND
THE NON -PARTISAN PRIMARY. ELECTION FOR
THE. NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES FOR THE
COMMISSION SHALL BE HELD ON THE FIRST
TUESDAY AFTER THE FIRST MONDAY IN
NOVEMBER IN ODD -NUMBERED YEARS: PRO-
VIDING FOR THE CALLING OF A SPECIAL
ELECTION ON. MARCH 14, 1972 AND PRO-
VIDING FOR THE AMENDMENT TO APPEAR ON
THE BALLOT; PROVIDING THAT THIS PROPOSED
AMENDMENT SHALL BE REFERRED TO AS CITY
CHARTER AMENDMENT NO. 1; PROVIDING THAT
THIS ORDINANCE BE DECLARED AN EMERGENCY
MEASURE, AND DISPENSING WITH THE RE-
QUIREMENT OF READING THIS ORDINANCE ON
TWO SEPARATE DAYS BY A FOUR -FIFTHS VOTE
OF THE COMMISSION.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That Section 8 of the Charter of.
the City of Miami, Chapter 10847, Special Acts, Laws
of Florida, 1925, as amended, is hereby amended by
changing the dates of the regular and primary munici-
pal elections, said section to read as follows;
"Se� Regular and primary elections
of commissioners.
A regular municipal election for
the eieetior of commissioners shall be
held on the s-cond Tuesday after the
first Monday in November in odd -
numbered year A non -partisan
primary election for the nomination
of candidates for the commission
shall be held on the first Tuesday.
after the first Monday in November in
odd -numbered years. Any person who shall
possess the qualifications requisite to
an elector at the general State election
and shall have resided in the City of
Miami for sit months next preceding the
city election at which he offers to vote,
and shall have been registered by the
city registration books that have been
prescribed by 'rdinance, shall be a
qualified elector of the city, and all
elections held in said city shall be
conducted and held according to the
provisionsof the general election laws
of the State of Florida, except as other-
wise provided for in the Charter of the
City, of Miami, and except that the city
commission shall be substituted for a
board of county commissioners.` The name of
airfyelector of the city shall be printed
upon the primary ballot as a candidate for
nomination to the office of commissioner
upon: paying to the City of Miami the sum,
of $100.00, to be deposited with the city
clerk as a qualifying fee not less than
forty-five days prior to the date of such
primary election, and said elector shall
submit concurrently therewith a sworn
statement of his orher name, address,
occupation and willingness to serve, if
elected."

Section 3. That this ordinance is hereby declared
to be an emergency measure on the ground of urgent
public need for the preservation of health, safety,
welfare and protection of property in The City of
Miami.
Section 4. That the requirement of reading
this ordinance on two separate days is hereby dispensed
