A RESOLUTION URGING THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS, DADS` COUNTY, PLORIDA TO EXPAND
THE COCONUT PALM PLANING PROGRAM INITIATED
BY THE CITY OP MIAMI.
WHEREAS, the coconut palm has long served as a symbol
of our sub -tropical environment; and
WHEREAS, this South Florida trademark has come under
attack by a lethal yellowing disease; and
WHEREAS, the disease kills palm trees, leaving only a
sickly trunk; and
WHEREAS, coconut palms provide an important source of
food and promote the economy of South Florida; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami has initiated a program of
planting palm trees;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of
Miami, Florida urgds the Board of County Commissioners of Dade
County, Florida to expand the program of planting coconut palms
initiated by the City of Miami.
Section 2. The City Clerk is hereby directed to send a
copy of this Resolution to the Mayor of Dade County, Florida and
to the members of the Board of County Commissioners of Dade County,
Florida.
