A RESOLUTION URGING THE STATE OP FLORIDA
TO SAND THE COCONUT PALM PLANTING PRO-
GRAM INITIATED BY THE CITY OF MIAMI.
WHEREAS, the coconut palm has long served as a symbol of
our sub -tropical environment; and
WHEREAS, this South Florida trademark has come under
attack by a lethal yellowing disease; and
WHEREAS, the disease kills palm trees, leaving only a
sickly trunk; and
WHEREAS, coconut palms provide an important source of
food and promote the economy of South Florida; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami has initiated a program of
planting palm trees;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Miami,
Florida urges the State of Florida to expand the program of plant-
ing coconut palms initiated by the City of Miami.
Section 2. The City Clerk is hereby directed to send a
copy of this Resolution to the Governor of the Stateof Florida.
