A RESOLUTION 'URGING THE U. S. SENATE
AND THE SENATE SUB -COMMITTEE ON PARKS
AND RECREATION TO sAve THE BIG CYPRESS
NATIONAL WATER PRESERVE AS A NECESSARY
WATER SUPPLY SOURCE FOR THE EVERGLADES
NATIONAL PARK AND PORTIONS OF SOUTH
FLORIDA.

WHEREAS, the United States House of Representatives has
overwhelmingly voted to create the BIG CYPRESS NATIONAL WATER
PRESERVE north of Everglades National Park.
WHEREAS, the bill must now pass the Senate before the
State of Florida can begin to purchase the approximately 570,000 acres
that comprise the watershed area.
WHEREAS, the BIG CYPRESS NATIONAL WATER PRESERVE is a
necessary water supply source and a unique national attraction
that Florida alone can claim.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That a Resolution endorcing the creation of
the BIG CYPRESS NATIONAL WATER PRESERVE is hereby confirmed.
Section 2. That the United States Senate be urged to
pass legislation necessary for the creationoof the BIG CYPRESS
NATIONAL WATER PRESERVE.
Section 3. That copies of this Resolution be sent to
Senators Lawton Chiles and Edward Gurney and Senator Alan Bible,
Chairman of the Senate Sub -Committee on Parks and Recreation.
