A RESOLUTION URGING THE METROPOLITAN DADE
COUNTY COMMISSION TO APPROVE IN PRINCIPLE
THE STATE OF FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANS-
PORTATION PROPOSED STATE PRIMARY ROAD SYSTEM
AS SUBMITTED IN THEIR STUDY REPORT MAY 30,
1973; FURTHER URGING THE DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION TO TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION
TO IMPLEMENT THE SYSTEM AS PROPOSED AS EARLY
AS POSSIBLE; FURTHER PROVIDING THAT ACCEPT-
ANCE OF THIS PROPOSED SYSTEM AS RELATED TO
STREETS WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI WILL NOT
PRECLUDE THE USE OF DADE COUNTY ALLOCATED
SECONDARY GAS TAX FUNDS OR COUNTY BOND FUNDS
ON THESE STREETS.
WHEREAS, as transportation problems in metropolitan
areas grow more acute, there is an ever increasing need for
road improvements to the miles of heavily travelled streets
serving area wide traffic, and
WHEREAS, there are many miles of arterial streets within
the City of Miami which are extensively used in serving the
entire Metropolitan area and many of which are in obvious
need of improvement, and
WHEREAS, the State Department of Transportation is com-
pleting a study report which will restructure the State
Primary Road System to place greater emphasis on urban areas
and reclassify many miles of roads in urban areas which are
not now included in the system, and
WHEREAS, the State proposes to add 392 miles to the
State Primary system in Dade County, increasing the mileage
within the City of Miami from 36.8 to 124.2 miles, and
WHEREAS, the system as proposed adheres very closely
to the various streets which the City has attempted to get
improved by the State or County. It is almost identical
with that system of streets within the City which for years
has been recognized by Dade County and the City of Miami as
being Metropolitan Arterials in nature, in that they serve
an area wide need as opposed to being used principally for
residents of the municipality, and they carry high volumes
of traffic, and
WHEREAS, if adopted as proposed, such adoption must be
preceded by public hearings, and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Miami en-
dorses the proposed Primary Road System and encourages its
early acceptance and implementation, and
WHEREAS, acceptance of the proposed system as related
to streets within the City of Miami is conditioned upon the
fact such action will not preclude the use of Dade County
allocated secondary gas tax funds or County bond funds on
these streets within the City of Miami,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Commission of the City of Miami urges
the Metropolitan Dade County Commission approve in principle
the State of Florida Department of Transportation proposed
State Primary Road System as submitted in their study report
of May 30, 1973.
Section 2. The Comnission of the City of Miami recommends
that the State of Florida Department of Transportation take
appropriate action to implement the system as proposed as
early as possible.
Section 3. The Commission of the City of Miami recom-

system as related to streets within the City of Miami
shall not preclude the use of Dade County allocated secondary
gas tax funds or County bond funds on these streets.
Section 4. The city Clerk is directed to forward
certified copies of this resolution to the County Manager,
Metropolitan Dade County Public Works, and to the Metro-
politan Dade County Deputy Clerk for distribution to the
Board of County Commissioners, and to the State of Florida
Department of Transportation.
