DALLAS PARK" AS IDENTIFIED IN THE CITY OF MIAMI PARKS AND RECREATIONAL HOiJD PROGRAM, PAGE ONE, AND APPROVED I3Y TEE CITY COMMISSION AND THE VOTERS OF THE CITY OF MIAMI. WHEREAS, the 1972 City of t.iami Parks and Recreational Bond Program included $400,000.00 for the acquisition and development of "Ft. Dallas Park" to be located on parcels 17, 18 and 19, immediately west of the Y.W.C.A. property on the Miami River, and WHEREAS, the voters of the City of Miami approved the Bond Issue, including the funds for the proposed "Ft. Dallas Park", and, WHEREAS, the establishment of "Ft. Dallas Park" will in effect replace the original Julia Tuttle Park which was located in the same general area and lost to the expressway construction and the re-creation of a park in this area will appropriately memorialize the earliest settlement in Downtown ?iiami (Ft. Dallas), and WHEREAS, the Downtown Development Authority has caused to be prepared, plans, programs and construction documents for the first segment of the !.iami River Walkway, and WHEREAS, the first segment of the Miami River Walkway will be located between the existing Dupont Plaza Center boardwalk and the proposed "Ft. Dallas Park", and ;HEREAS, the acquisition and development of "Ft. Dallas Park" area is essential to the walkway to provide a point of public access to the Riverfront and River Walkway, and WHEREAS, the Downtown Development Authority is prepared to proceed with the development of the 1•.iami :fiver Walkway consistent with the establishment of a policy of acquisition and development of "Ft. Dallas Park" by the City Commission. NOW, THEREFORE, 3E IT RESOLVED 3Y THE DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTE0IITY OF The CITY 0= MIAMI, THAT: 1. The City Commission of the City of Miami is requested to establish a policy for the immediate acquisition of the proposed "Ft. Dallas Park" as identified in the City of 1`.iami Parks and Recreational Bond Program, Page One, and approved by the City Commission and the voters of the City of I4iami. ael*dvesws .0 Downtown Development Authority Resolution Number 73.03 Page 2. 2. The Downtown Development Authority has deferred this River Walkway Project, awaiting availability of funds for purchase of "park areas" along the river which are essential "public access points" to the walkway. 3. In view of the absolute necessity to have "public access" to the walkway, which cannot be obtained other than through purchase of "public areas", the Downtown Development Authority has determined that it is not wise to proceed with construction of the i`.iami River Walkway Project until and unless the City proceeds to provide the proposed public park area, which will be the western terminus and access to the first segment of the I•.iami River Walkway Project.
