AFFIRMATIVE VOTE, PURSUANT TO SECTION 54-137 OF THE CODE OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED ("CITY CODE"), DECLARING NO
OBJECTION AND WAIVING THE RESTRICTIONS RELATED TO STREET CO -
DESIGNATIONS AND CO -DESIGNATING NORTHWEST 11TH STREET BETWEEN
NORTHWEST 7TH AVENUE AND BISCAYNE BOULEVARD AS "HARLEM SQUARE
STREET"; DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ALL NECESSARY ACTION
TO EFFECTUATE THE CO -DESIGNATION; AND DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO
TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE DESIGNATED RECIPIENTS.

AFFIRMATIVE VOTE, PURSUANT TO SECTION 54-137 OF THE CODE OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED ("CITY CODE"), DECLARING NO
OBJECTION AND WAIVING THE RESTRICTIONS RELATED TO STREET CO -
DESIGNATIONS AND CO -DESIGNATING NORTHWEST 11TH STREET BETWEEN
NORTHWEST 7TH AVENUE AND BISCAYNE BOULEVARD AS "HARLEM SQUARE
STREET"; DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ALL NECESSARY ACTION
TO EFFECTUATE THE CO -DESIGNATION; AND DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO
TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE DESIGNATED RECIPIENTS.
WHEREAS, on February 18, 2026 the Miami -Dade County Board of County
Commissioners, pursuant to Miami -Dade County Resolution No. R-119-26, approved the
co -designation of Northwest 11th Street between Northwest 7th Avenue and Biscayne
Boulevard as "Harlem Square Street," and has urged the City of Miami ("City") to co -designate
that portion of Northwest 11th Street; and
WHEREAS, Overtown has long served as an artistic, cultural, economic, and social
center of Black life in Miami and South Florida; and
WHEREAS, during the Jim Crow era, Overtown became a principal destination for
visiting Black entertainers and grew into a vibrant entertainment district known as Little
Broadway; and
WHEREAS, the Harlem Square Club emerged as one of the district's most iconic
venues and later became the site of Sam Cooke's legendary 1963 live performance recorded as
Live at the Harlem Square Club, 1963; and
WHEREAS, this street segment runs through historic Little Broadway near the former
Harlem Square Club site, making it a fitting honorary designation; and
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 14317, adopted September 26, 2024, authorizes the waiver
of street co -designation restrictions by a four -fifths (4/5ths) vote of the City Commission;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth herein.
Section 2. The City Commission, by a four -fifths (4/5ths) vote, waives the restrictions
related to street co -designations and hereby co -designates Northwest 11th Street between
Northwest 7th Avenue and Biscayne Boulevard as "Harlem Square Street."
Section 3. The City Manager is directed to take all necessary steps to effectuate this
street co -designation, including installation of appropriate signage.
Section 4. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a certified copy of this Resolution to the
Departments of Police, Fire -Rescue, and Solid Waste; the Miami -Dade County Department of
Transportation and Public Works; the Miami -Dade County Commissioner of District 3; the
United States Postal Service; and, if a State of Florida road, to the Florida Department of
Transportation, District Six, for sign installation within the newly designated roadway.
Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
