A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE SINCERE
SYMPATHY AND CONDOLENCES OF THE
MAYOR OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA,
THE CITY COMMISSIONERS, AND ALL OF
THE CITIZENS OF THE CITY OF.MIRMI,
TO THE MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY OF THE
LATE LYNDON $. JOHNSON, WHOSE PASS-
ING HAS DEPRIVED THE CITY OF MIRMI,
THE STATE OF FLORIDA, AND THE UNITED
STATES OF AMERICA, OF ONE OF ITS
TRULY OUTSTANDING CITIZENS.
WHEREAS, Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th President of the United
States, passed away on January 22, 1973, at the age of 64 years;
and

WHEREAS, Lyndon B. Johnson served first as a United States
Senator from the State of Texas and, during that service, prov-
ing to be intensely loyal and in the largest sense non-partisan;
~ one of his most notable achievements while serving as a Senator
'~ was the securing of t} passage of the first Civil Rights Bill
to pass the United States Senate in 82 years; and
WHEREAS, he sought, during his term as PreSi~.le,1t, to create
a "Great Society", which he defined in this way, "The Great
Society asks not only how much, but how good; not only how to
create wealth, but how to use it; not only how fast are we going,
but where are we going;" and
WHEREAS, Lyndon B. Johnson, during his term as President,
began the long campaign to clean up the nation's physical en-
vironment and to re-constitute its human resources; and
WHEREAS, it has been c~~.d of Lyndon B. Johnson that he was
a dynamic leader, a unique personality, and a man of great
ability and unshakeable courage; he i~~~lieved in America, what

America could mean to all of its citizens, and what America
could mean to the World; in the service of that faith, he
gave himself completely.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY 'I'fiE COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Mayor of the City of Miami, Florida, the
City Commissioners, and all the citizens of the City of Miami,
extend their sincere sympathy and condolences to the members
of the family of the late Lyndon B. Johnson, whose passing has
deprived the City of Miami, the State of Florida, and the
United States of America of one of its truly outstanding
citizens.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 25th day of January, 1973.
