A RESOLUTION INDICATING THE CITY' S iNlial ' TO MOVE
FORWARD AS EXPEDITIOUSLY AS POSSIBLE TO IMPLEMENT
PUBLIC WORKS AND CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS WITHIN
THE CITY OF MIAMt IN AN EFFORT TO COUNTER THE HIGH
RATE OF UNEMPLOYMENT AND DEPRESSED CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY.
WHEREAS, we are currently experiencing a 6.3% unemployment rate,
up from 4.5% in April of this year, and up from 4% in September, 1973, with
unemployment expected to increase and possibly exceed 7% in 1975, and the
unemployment rate for minority male youth is three times the current 6.3%
rate; and
WHEREAS, in September of this year, an estimated 39,600 persons were
unemployed out of 660,900 persons in the labor force in Dade County; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Commission of the City of Miami
to expedite Capital Improvement Programs; and
WHEREAS, the Commission of the City of Miami believes that by taking
this action and working together with the County and other municipalities we
can improve the economic situation and that this action will stimulate
improvement of the current economic situation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY J.un COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MLAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the City of Miami hereby indicates its intent to
move forward as expeditiously as possible to implement public works and
capital improvement projects within the City of Miami in an effort to counter
the high rate of unemployment and depressed construction industry.
