DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO SUPPORT THE PROPOSED USE OF AMTRAK TO REINSTITUTE RAIL PASSENGER SERVICE THROUGH ATLANTA, GEORGIA BY ADDING A SECTION TO THE EXISTING "FLORID/AN" TO SPLIT OFF AT NASHVILLE, SERVE CHATTANOOGA, ATLANTA, MACON, AND SAVANNAH AND REJOIN THE "FLORIDIAN" AT 3ACKSONVILLE. WHEREAS, an important link is missing in our passen- ger network since there is no rail passenger service between the Atlanta, Georgia - Eastern Tennessee Area to Florida; and WHEREAS, Dr. Charles A. Dunn, Florida Co-ordinator of the Georgia Association of Railroad Passengers, has submit- ted a rail service proposal that would serve and greatly benefit Florida localities by the use of AMTRAK passenger service by adding a section to the existing "Floridian"; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The U.S. Department of Transportation be, and is hereby, urged to support the proposed use of AMTRAK to reinstitute Rail Passenger Service, through Atlanta, Georgia by adding a section to the existing "Floridian," splitting off at Nashville, serving Chttanooga, Atlanta, Macon, and Savannah and rejoining the "Floridian" at Jacksonville.
