HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-74-1069MC/ts 9/13/74 RESOLUTION NO. 7 OVO 7 A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE NEED FOR LANDSCAPING ON N.W. 20 STREET AND URGING THE METROPOLITAN DADE COUNTY COMMISSION TO INCLUDE NEW TREE PLANTINGS ON N.W. 20 STREET AS PART OF THE N.W. 20 STREET COUNTY ROAD PROJECT AND TO FURTHER REQUEST THAT THE METROPOLITAN DADE COUNTY COMMISSION CONSIDER NEW LANDSCAPING ON ALL STREETS WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI INCLUDED IN THE "DECADE OF PROGRESS" BOND PROGRAM. WHEREAS, on March 21, 1972 the Metropolitan Dade County Commission adopted Ordinance No. 72-19 explaining the ad- vantages of landscaping and preserving of existing trees relative to new construction; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami is also on record in this respect through Ordinance No. 7989 which promotes the usage of trees relative to private and public projects; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami deems it important to promote landscaping by including new trees and, _ landscaping materials as contract bid items on all their new highway improvement projects; and WHEREAS, construction on the N.W. 20 Street Highway Project has begun and the contract plans do not include usage of new tree plantings, and said project is under the jurisdiction of Metropolitan Dade County; and WHEREAS, the number of existing trees within the public right of way along N.W. 20 Street is extremely small in relation to the area encompassed by the project, and new tree plantings will serve to enhance the area by providing a more pleasant community setting; and 710C E s I I X 1) CITY COMMISS:. N MEET!"yr: : r SEP271974 1 RESOLUTION N' .7 - 10C, 7 - REMARKS: • WHEREAS, members of the Allapattah Community Association appeared before the City Commission on June 27, 1974, to enlist the City's aid to encourage Metropolitan Dade County to include the planting of shade trees on N.W. 20 Street between I-95 and N.W. 27 Avenue; and WHEREAS, in order to comply with the spirit and intent of County Ordinance 72-19 and City Ordinance No. 7989 and to enhance the appearance of N.W. 20 Street between I-95 and N.W. 27 Avenue, the City urges Metropolitan Dade County to include the planting of new shade trees and landscaping materials as part of the N.W. 20 Street Highway Project and all future highway projects in the City of Miami; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the public right of way along N.W. 20 Street between I-95 and N.W. 27 Avenue, be, and the same is hereby, determined an area in urgent need of shade trees and other landscaping materials. Section 2. That the Metropolitan Dade County Commission be, and is hereby, urged to direct its proper officials to include the planting of shade trees and other landscaping materials as part of the construction of the N.W. 20 Street Highway Project. Section 3. That the Metropolitan Dade County Commission be, and is hereby, urged to direct its proper officials to include new landscaping on all streets within the City of Miami included in the "DECADE OF PROGRESS" BOND PROGRAM.
