A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE
FINANCE DIRECTOR OF THE CITY OF MIAMI TO
PAY TO THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR THE SUM OF
$25,327.40 AS FULL REPAYMENT FOR ALLEGED
DISCREPANCIES IN THE EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS
GRANTED TO THE CITY OF MIAMI UNDER THE
EMERGENCY EMPLOYMENT ACT; ALLOCATING
FUNDS FOR THIS PURPOSE FROM THE JUDGMENT
AND LOSSES ACCOUNT OF THE LAW DEPARTMENT.

WHEREAS, the City of Miami has been in receipt of a
demand from the Department of Labor of the United States
demanding repayment of certain funds received by the City
under the Emergency Employment Act and disbursed by the City;
and
WHEREAS, the demand by the Department of Labor for re-
payment of certain of these EEA funds culminated in a series
of audits by the Department of Labor, responses on behalf of
the City of Miami to the demand and an evaluation of the re-
sponses by the Department of Labor.; and
WHEREAS, originally, the auditors for the Department
of Labor originally took exception to EEA expenditures in the
amount of $578,194.37; and
WHEREAS, by subsequent audits and responses to the ques-
tions posed by the Department of Labor concerning the expenditure
of EEA funds by the City of Miami, the Department of Labor has
agreed to accept the sum of $25,327.40 as repayment for the sums
previously in question; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and the City Attorney have
advised that it is in the best interest of the City of Miami

to immediately repay to the Department of Labor the sum of
$25,327.40; and
WHEREAS ♦ the appropriate funds for the repayment
to the Department of Labor of the said $25,327.40 are to
be allocated from the Judgment and Losses Account of the
Law Department;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Finance Director of the City of Miami
is hereby authorized and directed to pay to the Department of
Labor of the United States the sum of $25,327.40 as full re-
payment to the Department of Labor for alleged discrepancies
in the expenditure of funds granted to the City of Miami under
the Emergency Employment Act.
Section 2. The sum of $25,327.40 is hereby allocated
from the Judgment and Losses Account of the Law Department for
the purpose described in Section 1 herein.
