HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-74-0630RESOLUTION NO. 74-630 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DONATION OF AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $40,000.00 OF FEDERAL REVENUE SHARING FUNDS TO UNITED PUERTO RICANS, INC. FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING IMPROVED AND EXPANDED DAY CARE SERVICES IN THE CITY OF MIAMI; FURTHER PROVIDING THAT THE CITY MANAGER SHALL DETERMINE THE ACTUAL AMOUNT TO BE DONATED WHICH SHALL BE THE MINIMUM AMOUNT NECESSARY TO PROVIDE THE OPTIMUM SERVICES FROM TWO EXISTING FACILITIES; FURTHER PROVIDING. THAT THE CITY MANAGER SHALL REQUIRE PROOF ADEQUATE TO INSURE THAT FUNDS ARE EXPENDED FOR THE PURPOSE SPECIFIED. WHEREAS, there are funds available to furnish day care services to additional citizens in the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, these funds are awarded in an amount propor- tionate to the number of individuals receiving day care services; and WHEREAS, the number of recipients of federal assistance within the area surrounding Roberto Clemente Park is limited by the availability of physical facilities; and WHEREAS, United Puerto Ricans, Inc., a non-profit charitable organization chartered by the State of Florida, has the ability to and has proposed to provide additional facilities, provided funds are provided by the City of Miami; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Manager be and he is hereby author- ized to convey a donation of federal revenue sharing funds in the hands of the City of Miami, in an amount not to exceed Forty Thousand ($40,000.00) Dollars, to the United Puerto Ricans, Inc., a non-profit corporation in the State of Florida, for the pur- pose of providing improved and expanded day care services in the Roberto Clemente Park area in the City of Miami, said funds to be taken from the Capital Improvement portion of the current day care center program; and that the City Manager have direct control and management of the expenditures of these funds; and further that the City Manager shall enter into appropriate agreements with the two church organizations involved for a period of not less than three years to control the expend- iture of these funds. Section 2. The actual amount of funds to be donated will be determined by the City Manager and shall be the minimum amount determined by him to be necessary to expand and improve two presently existing facilities in the area surrounding Roberto Clemente Park to the optimum amount of day care ser- vices available at those facilities. Section 3. The City Manager shall require such proof as he may determine to be adequate to insure that the funds herein provided are expended for the purpose herein specified and for no other purpose.
