HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-74-03925/9/ '4 RESOLUTION NO. 74-3 92 A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE SUPPORT OF THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, FOR TEE PASSAGE OF AN ACT RELATING TO TEMPORARY LICENSING BY THE BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT OF PROFESSIONAL AND OCCUPA- TIONAL REGULATION ?ROVIDING FOR", '' THE TEMPORARY LICENSING OF AN APPLICANT WHO HAS BEEN LICENSED UNDER THE LAWS OF A FOREIGN COUNTRY; AND DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK OF THE CITY OF MIAMI TO SEND COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE PROPER MEMBERS OF THE FLORIDA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND THE FLORIDA SENATE. WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature has found that as of 1972 there were over 500,000 Cubans in exile residing in Florida; and WHEREAS, approximately 3,000 Cubans, who are taxpaying residents of the State of Florida, are not permitted to pursue their chosen professions or occupations; and WHEREAS, Florida has experienced severe shortages of qualified practioners in the various professions and occupations; and WHEREAS, it is desirable to encourage the use of duly qualified foreign -speaking Florida residents to become actively engaged in their chosen professions or occupations so that all Florida citizens may receive better services; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. Occupational Regulation providing for the temporary licensing of an applicant who has been licensed under the laws of a foreign country. Section 2. The City Clerk of the city of Miami is hereby directed to send copies of this resolution to the proper members of the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate.
