HomeMy WebLinkAboutO-08242MC:eb 4-4-74 • ORDINANCE NO. e' AN ORDINANCE INCREASING JITNEY FARES FROM THIRTY (30) CENTS TO THIRTY-FIVE (35) CENTS (A 5 RATE INCREASE); DECLARING THIS ORDINANCE TO BE AN EMERGENCY MEASURE AND DIS- PENSING WITH THE REQUIREMENT OF READING THE SAME ON TWO SEPARATE DAYS BY A VOTE OF NOT LESS THAN FOUR -FIFTHS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION. WHEREAS, the upward spiralling of inflationary prices has necessitated raising the fare of jitneys from Thirty (30) Cents to Thirty -Five (350 Cents (a 5 rate increase); and WHEREAS, the previous fare of Thirty (30) Cents is not a realistic figure; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. Sec. 56-45.1. Rate of fare for for -hire cars (jitney buses); is hereby amended to read: 1/ The rate of th a#y-eente thirty-five cents fare shall be charged by all holders of certificates operating for -hire cars (jitney buses) used to transport passengers over the streets, roads and highways of the city. Section 2. It is the intention of the City Commission and it is hereby ordained that this section of Sec. 56-45.1 shall become and be made a part of the Code of the City of Miami. Section 3. This Ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency measure on the grounds of urgent public need for transportation in the City of Miami. Section 4. The requirement of reading this Ordinance on two separate days is hereby dispensed with by a vote of not less than four -fifths of the Members of the Commission.
