RESOLUTION NO. 4' A
A RESOLUTION APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN
THE CITY OF MIAMI AND THE UNIVERSI-TY OF
MIAMI SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, DEPARTMENT OF
SURGERY, AUTHORIZING THE SERVICES OF A
LICENSED PHYSICIAN TO PERFORM NECESSARY
MEDICAL EMERGENCY SERVICES FOR THE MIAMI
FIRE DEPARTMENT RESCUE UNITS IN THE AMOUNT
OF $2,591 FOR MALPRACTICE INSURANCE AND
$10,000 FOR THE SENIOR MEDICAL ADVISOR;
FOR A TOTAL AMOUNT OF$12.591 ANNUALLY.
WHEREAS, the City's Fire Rescue Squad fulfills a
necessary and important need for the citizenry: to wit.
providing on the scene emergency medical service; and
WHEREAS, the Rescue Unit is unable to perform
necessary medical emergency services without authorization
and instruction from a licensed physician; and
WHEREAS, the University of Miami through its School
of Medicine, Department of Surgery has agreed to assign a
member of its teaching faculty to work with and supervise the
professional portion of the emergency medical program of the
City of Miami; and
WHEREAS, the Commission of the City of Miami by
Resolution No. 74-22, passed and adopted the loth day of Janu-
ary, 1974, has authorized and directed the City Manager to enter
into Contracts and Agreements in connection therewith;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That it does hereby approve of a Contract
between the City of Miami and the University of Miami for
emergency medical services through its School of Medicine.
Section 2. That money for this program should be
allocated from the unencumbered balance of the contingency fund for
the University of Miami School of Medicine as follows:
$2,591 for malpractice insurance; $10,000 annual salary of
Senior Medical Advisor, for a total amount of $12,591; said
amount to be for one (1) year from January 31, 1974 through
January 31, 1975.
