Dade County Commissioner Beverly Phillips: First. welcome Governor Askew and Steretary
Webb. We're delighted to have you here today. When I think haw close this Whole thing
came to a practical disaster a couple of months ago 1 shuMder became We nearly
replacing that bridge by the Dupont Plata without ever looking at the beiswenger Plan.
We caught this fortunately at the critical point. I think there's no question but what
the County Commission will be glad to collie up inorder to expedite this project with
$140,000. I see this as no problem. (APPLAUSE) We've been fortunate being able to
invest some of our bond moneys and pile some of our interest back into additional proj-
ects. But in addition I would like to point out that we've got a problem out in
Okechobee Road as I'm sure the secretary is aware of and there is about a million point
two out there that you're going to use to buy frontage road right of way which we'll
be glad tc pile back into this project.
Governor Askew: Let as just say first of all that I find something very healthy and
refreshing about our ability to really sit down with our State Controller end myself
at. statewide elected officials with representatives of the Metro CoMeission and members
of the city plus interests within the private sector because obviously when you're talk-
ing about the maps you're talking about some type of agreement within the private sector
for funding as well. And I just feel like the thing can Move. I think it is going to
requite beyond starting this it is going to require a candid reassessment of the county
in terms of its expenditure of its in -money. Be you know after the first of the year
you will be able to utilise that for mass trenaportatiem as well as highways so I think
