\\'Iit,It.t As, they City anticipates receiving an additional reimburse-
ment for past expenditures for pollution control projects: and
\t'I1EREAS, the Federal Protection Agency officials have statett
that it is not required for these reimbursement funds to be used for pollution
control projects: and
WHEREAS, it is to the City's advantage to participate in the
Underground Utilities Notification Center now being organized: and
WHEREAS. the estimated cost for the calendar year 197 , will be
less than $2. 50() which will cover the installation and rental of a teletype
machine to be located in the i)epartment of Public Works and to cover the
overhead cost Of operating the Underground Utilities Notification Center,
and as additional agencies become members of this program said costs will
decrease: and
WHEREAS. it will be required that any contractor or underground
utility, at least 48 hours before commencing the planned work, call a special
telephones nunsber at the Notification Center, prior to excavating, boring, pile
driving or disturbing the earth in any way that might cause damage to an
underground facility: and

WHEREAS. when such a call is received, personnel in the center
w•iII document all pertinent data associated with the work and promptly transmit
it to participating members who have underground utilities in the vicinity: and

Section 1. That when the anticipated reimbursement funds are
received, the Appropriations Ordinance for 19 7 5-76 is to be amended to
place these monies in the Special Reimbursement Fund, and that a maximum
of $2, 5OO is authori7erl to be appropriated from that fund for the 197E member-
ship in the Underground Utilities Notification Center.
Section 2. That the City Manager be, and is hereby, authori7.ed
to enter into an agreement for the City to become a participating member in
the Dade County Underground Utilities notification Center.
