Awards of Bid for Furniture
for New Folice Building
Agenda Item 4
On 22 April 1975, the City Cor^ia,ion was informed of the
Police Department's plans to furnish the new building.
Approximately 50-,. of the furn .tu/ e requirements would be
met by purchasing new furniture, and the remaining 40
would be provided for by refurbishing the best of the furniture
in the present facility.
The City Commission by Resolution No. 75-381 allocated
$273,000. for furniture, refurbishing of furniture, and
to purchase some other items. In the report to the City
Commission it was estimated that the purchase of new furniture
would cost about $215,000.
The awards of bid for furniture to be considered by the
City Commission on 9 October 1975, represent about one-half
of the furniture to be purchased. Originally, the Police
Department planner to acquire about one-half of the furniture
through bids and the other half through the State of Florida
contract. The furniture to be acquired by bid was that
furniture which could not be provided under the State contract
becauve the items were not available under the State contract;
or, they could not meet the interior design requirements of
durability, style, color, or etc.
The bids presently under consideration amount to $79,943.10.
The Department had originally estimated that the bids would
amount to about $104+,000. thus, the bids came in about 25%
lower than estimated. Because of this experience the Police
Department now plans to put out for bid the furniture which
was originally intended to b_ purchased under the State contract
since present market conditions indicate bidding may be more
cost effective than purchasing under the State contract.
