10.9-75 Agenda Item No. 36
A few months ago a delegation from the Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida
appeared before the Commission to request permission for the use of a
portion of Virginia Key to establish a Girl Scout camping area. At that
time the Administration was requested to meet with thern and determine
the best location for the camping area. Several parcels of City property
were considered, and because of its location, accessibility, and natural
setting, the Girl Scouts felt that Sewell Park, located on the Miami River
at N. W. 1 7th Avenue, was the most acceptable.
This park has very limited use and arrangements have been made with the
Department of Parks and Recreation for the Girl Scouts of South Florida
to have use of this park on weekends from October 4, 1975 through May 29,
1976. Ms. Siegel. Program Services Director for the Girl Scout Council
of Tropical Florida. expects their youngest girls, age 6 through 12. to use
the park and because their treasuries are very limited. has requested that
the $10 use fee for this park he waived. This $10 fee is a per weekend
charge and for the period they have requested would amount to a total of
approximately $ 300.
It is recommended that the attached resolution be adopted granting the
waiver of the use fee for Sewell Park for the Girl Scouts weekend camping
from October 4, 1975 to May 29. 1976.

1 am writing in reference to the City of Miami's
kind arrangement with the Girl Scouts of Tropi-
cal Florida re: Sewell Park, N. W. 1.7th Avenue
and South River Drive. Clifford Hayes has arrang-
ed for exclusive Girl Scout use of the park on
weekends, October 4, 1975 through May 29, 1976.
We understand there is a $10.00 use fee. Because
we expect our youngest girls (ages 6-t2) to use
this park, and because often their treasuries are
limited, we would like to explore the possibility
of waiving this fee.
We would like to ask to be on the October 9 agenda,
to speak to the Commission about this fee, before
Girl Scouts begin intensive use of the park.
Thank you for your kind attention.
Sincerely, ) --
