SHIP OF T t BADE LEAGUE of CITIES TO JOIN
WITH T't n CITY aF MIAMI IN SUPPORT or 'THt
ESTAELtSHMENT OF A FOREIGN TRADt 'oNE IN
THE GREATER MIAMI AREA.
WHEREAS, there are currently thirteen foreign'trade
zones in the United States; and
WHEREAS, there are none in the State of Florida; and
WHEREAS, the establishment and utilization of a foreign
trade zone will stimulate employment in the area surrounding such
a zone; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami is a focal point for trade
between the United States and the Latin-American countries; and
WHEREAS, state legislative authority is a prerequisite
to a foreign trade zone by the United States government; and
WHEREAS, Senator George Firestone is preparing to
pre -file a bill providing for the necessary legislative authority
by the State of Florida; and
WHEREAS, final authority for the establishment of a
foreign trade zone requires federal legislative action;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA;
Section 1. The Commission of the City of Miami hereby
manifests its hearty approval of the concept of the establishment

Section 2* The Legislature of the State of Florida
is urcjed to take such steps as may be necessary to authorize
the establishment of a foreign trade zone in the Greater Miami
area'
Section 3* The Commission of Metropolitan Dade County
and such other Metropolitan governments constituting the member-
ship of the Dade League of Cities are requested to join with
the City of Miami in support of the establishment of a foreign
trade zone in the Greater Miami area.
Section 4. The City Clerk is hereby directed to furnish
copies of this resolution to Metropolitan Dade County Commission
and the other Metropolitan governments constituting the member-
ship of the Dade League of Cities and the United States Senators
and Representatives in the Greater Miami area.
