A RESOLUTION URGING THE SMALL BUSINESS
ADMINISTRATION "RATIO N OE THE UNITED 'ED STATES TO
ASSIST LOBSTER trS tRMEN RESIDING IN
THE MIAMI AREA, BY MAXING LOANS To
THtSE PISHERMEN OR BY ASSISTING WITH
OTHER APPROPRIATE EE1 ERAL AID To EASE
THE BURDEN OE THESE PI8HtRMtN rN THIS
TIME OP FINANCIAL CIttStS,
WHEREAS, lobster fishermen living in the Miami area
are being severely hurt financially by the action of the
Bahamian Government which is preventing lobster fishermen
and other type fishermen from taking lobsters in Bahamian
waters; and
WHEREAS, such prohibition by the Bahamian Government
is creating a severe
economic
hardship upon these fishermen to
the extent that some are even forced to sell their homes and
other valuable possessions because of the loss; and
WHEREAS, because of the nature of their occupation,
these fishermen do not receive unemployment insurance benefits;
and
WHEREAS, the City Commission is deeply concerned about
the crisis which confronts the lobster fishermen;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Small Business Administration of
the United States is hereby urged to assist lobster fishermen

or by assisting with other appropriate federal aid to ease the
burden of these fishermen in this time of financial crisis.
