A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING
THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT A FEDERAL
GIANT APPLICATION To THE DEPARTMENT OF
JUSTICE, LAW ENFORCEMENT ADMINISTRATION
FOR $1 6, .O$. b0 TO CONTINUE AN EXISTING
PROJECT DESIGNED TO INCREASE PA1TICIPAM
T1ON OF YOUNG PEOPLE AND MEMEERS OP
M1NO1 ITY POPULATION CROUPS WITHIN THE
MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT; FURTHER AUTHOR-
IZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT THE
GRANT AND EXECUTE CONTRACTS AND AGREE-
MENTS NECESSARY TO IMPLEMENT THIS GRANT;
AND ASSURING THE AVAILA$ILITY OF WHATEVER
ADDITIONAL FUNDS ARE REQUIRED TO DEFRAY
THE PROJECT COST AND ALLOCATING THE
CITY'S MATCHING FUNDS AS NEW FUNDS FOR
CRIMINAL JUSTICE USE.

WHEREAS, under the terms of Public Law 90-351, as
amended, the United States of America has authorized the Law
Enforcement Assistance Administration, through the Florida
Bureau of Criminal Justice Planning and Assistance, to make
Federal Grants to assist local governments in the improvement
of criminal justice; and
WHEREAS, the Miami Police Department desires to
continue an existing project designed to increase participa-
tion of young people and members of minority population groups
within the Miami Police Department, and requests LEAA assistance
in the amount of $136,108.00, in addition to a request for the
State for an amount of $8,507.00; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami has assured the availability
of the local matching share of $25, 520, 00;

Section 1. The City Manager iS hereby uthbrited and
directed to submit a Federal Grant application tb the Depart. -
tent of JustiCet La W Enforcement AdminiStration, for $136,108.00
to continue an existing project designed to inCrease participa-
tion of young people and members Of minority population groups
within the Miami Police Department.
Section 2. That if such grant be made* the City of
Miami shall provide or make necessary arrangements to provide
such funds and/or in -kind contributions in addition to the grant
as may be required by the Act to defray the cost of the project
generally described above.
Section 3. That the City of Miami is aware that at least
fifty (50) percent of the minimum required non-federal cost of
the project be appropriated cash and that such funds designated
as local hard cash contributions in all related project budget
schedules that are to be provided by the City of Miami are
hereby allocated as new funds for Criminal Justice use for the
express purpose of matching the LEAA funds.
Section 4. The City Manager is hereby authorized to
accept the Grant and execute contracts and agreements neces-
sary to implement this Grant.
