MIAMI
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Dade County Public Works De-
partmet t has requested the City of Miami to issue a permit to
excavate approximately 5,000 cubic yards of submerged land located
in Sections 5 and 6, Township 54 South, Range 42 East, contiguous
to the southeastern portion of the New Port of Miami; and
WHEREAS, the excavated material is to be placed on the
south side of Dodge Island, and there is a dredging contractor
working in the vicinity at present who could do this work for them
if all required permits are obtained promptly;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Department of Public Works of the City
of Miami, be, and is hereby, authorized and directed to issue a
permit to Metropolitan Dade County Public Works Department to ex-
cavate submerged land contiguous to the southeastern portion of
the new Port of Miami.

ENCLOSURtS,
Metropolitan Dade County Department of Public Works has requested a
permit to excavate submerged land contiguous to the southeastern portion
of the Neu Port of Miami.
The purpose of this excavation is to widen the channel to prevent large
research vessels, which operate out of Miami on a permanent basis, from
running aground while berthing. There presently is a dredging contract-
or in the vicinity who could complete this dredging if all required per-
mits are obtained promptly. The County has also indicated that they
plan to place the excavated material on the south side of Dodge Island.
THE DEPARTMENT OP PUBLIC WORKS RECOMMENDS THE ADOPTION OF THE RESOLUTION
AUTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS TO ISSUE THE REQUESTED EXCAVA-
TION PERMIT TO METRO DADE COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT.
