The Slate of Florida Police Olympics were held on lune 26, 27, said
28, 1975, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, The Olympics were particle
pated in by fifteen hundred male and female police officers from
throughout the State of Florida. The City of Miami was represented
by one hundred and eight men and women who participated at their
own expense, and on their off duty time. Lt. Donald F. lviarch, 3r.,
coordinated Miami's participation in the Olympics. The Florida
Police Olympics was hosted by the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge
No. 31, of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.
The Police Department and the Police personnel who participated in
this event should be complimented for their interest in the Police
Department and the City having spent their own funds and time in
bringing this honor to the City of Miami.
In team sports, the City of Miami received a gold medal. in volleyball,
competing against fifteen teams; a silver medal in basketball, compet-
ing against fifteen teams; and a bronze medal in softball, competing
against twenty teams.
In track and field events, Miami participants received eighty-five
points and the associated medals on the basis of five points for a
gold medal, three points for a silver medal, and one point for a
bronze medal.
Outstanding performance was turned in by the women's track team,
which took first, second and third place in the broad jump, high jump
and one hundred yard dash. Police Officer Gwendolyn Davis won five
gold medals in various track events.
The swimming team received six gold medals and six silver medals
with the Miami Policewomen receiving all six of the gold medals.

In weight lifting and wrestling, Mated Police Departmetit participa.nts
received four gold tneda.lso and two silver medals. in judo, Miami
received otte gold medal. Miatni participants won a bronze medal in
golf. in pistol marksmanship,iVliatni participants reteived two bronze
medals, one one silver medal. Officer Wtlliant Saeger won a silver
medal in the six mile runo competing against thirty-eight other ath-
letes.
The overall team trophy for the Police Depa.rtmetts which participated
in Police Olympics was won by IVIiarni Police Department with two
hundred twenty total points for twenty-five gold medals, twenty-three
silver medals, and fifteen bronze medals. Second place with one hundred
thirty—five points went to the St. Petersburg, Florida, Police Department.
Necessary arrangements have been made for the City Commission to
formally present a trophy and proclamation to the Miami Police
Department, at the July 17, 1975, City Commission Meeting.
Acting Chief of Police Adam Klimkowski will be present to represent
the Department as a whole, along with several other police officers who
participated in the Olympics.
