Deletion of Wave]. Bureau Band
Requirement from City Code
Section 58`5 of the City Code requires that a $5,000 bond
be fired before a travel bureau license may be issued by
the City.
That section of the Code does not serve a useful purpose.
The License Division has twenty payments in its files at the
present time representing approximately $4,000 which can not
be processed due to a bond not being on file.
At the time that requirement was placed in the City Code, it
might have been justified; however, there is no record of a
claim ever having been filed against such bonds required by
the City.
As of this date a travel bureau must be a member of an
organization known as I.A.T.A., or "International Association
of Travel Agencies," or transportation companies will not
approve such agencies to issue tickets to the public.
It is recommended that Section 58 -5 of the City Code requiring
a $5,000 bond be deleted.
By copy of this memorandum, I am requesting the City Attorney to
prepare necessary legislative instruments to be submitted for City
Commission action.
