In response to your request that Mr. William 3. Wehle, 3r., Manager
of the Associated 1ia.rtiond Cabs be heard at the tune 12, 1975)
Corit` fission Meeting, the following is provided.
Previously, Mr. Wehle has communicated with the City Manager request
frig approval to offer a reduced fare in the form of a rebate as an incentive
to more fully utilize taxicabs. Based upon the advice of the City Attorney, the
City Administration was unable to administratively grant Mr. Wehle's
request.
Section 56-35 of the Code of the City of Miami, "Rates and Fares Generally",
specifically provides that:
Every holder of a certificate under this article shall
charge or shall permit to be charged in any vehicle
operated under such certificate only such rates of
fare or compensation as shall be established and
prescribed from time to time by ordinance duly
passed and adopted by the City Commission."
Mr. Wehle is requesting that the City Commission grant relief from this
portion of the City Code wherein $. 50 rebate can be offered as an incentive.
Included with this memorandum are copies of correspondence relativeto
Mr. Wehle's request.

Dear Mr. Wehle:
In response to your May 1, 1975, letter requesting the use of a
coupon that will rebate $.50 on cab fares, the following is provided.
Section 56-35 of the Code of the City of Miami, "Rates and Fares
Generally", specifically provides that:

We at Diamond Cab are doing our best to beat the recession
and have been looking into various ways to overcome our
loss of revenue.
Enclosed you will find a copy of our business card with
two coupons attached that are self explanatory. This is
not a fare reduction, but is an incentive, as a rebate,
to call our cabs.
I do not think that this would be contrary to any laws or
ordinances, but as a precautionary method, I am asking for
your opinion before we go through with this campaign.
These cards will be mailed to people whose names will be
taken from our Bresser's Cross Index Directory. Certain
Sections of the City will be chosen in which we will
inaugurate this program.
I hope that this idea will receive your approval and that
we will have a response from you as soon as possible.
