It is estimated that it would cost approximately $10, 000 to provide sports
lighting for the tennis court immediately east of Fire Station #8 in Coconut
Grove. Because of a high voltage power line along the east side of the tennis
court, it would be necessary to design special lighting for this facility.
This estimate is not in excess of the cost to provide standard approved
lighting for a tennis court, however.
Although currently there are no funds available for making this improve-
ment, the project can be funded when Parks for People Bond Fund surpluses
accrue in this District.
Providing lighting for this single tennis court will make it available to the
public for nighttime play. So that onduty Fire personnel will not monopolize
its use to the extent it will not be available to the public, when the lighting
improvement is provided procedures will be established whereby City em-
ployees will immediately yield the court for use by the public.
