Itete (a): We do net oppose the widening of South Bayshore Drive to the north of 5.14. 17th Avenue for the purpose stated, and believe it will, probably prove 'advantageous. HOWEVER, , we are concerned that such street Widening not be permitted to in any stay destroy those portionsof the old _ Silver Bluff that still remain on same of those lots facing South Bayshore Drive. These old geologic formations are or great historic interest in Miami, are used by the Dade County schools for instruction, and add considerable beauty and interest to the scene. Item (b): We favor the proposed closing of the entrance to Bay Heights at Tigertail Avenue. Considerable automobile traffic is generated through that entrance which is detrimental to this residential area and endangers some of the children of the neighborhood. Such traffic would be better routed to 4-lane South Miami Avenue and Bayshore Drive and to main 17th Avenue. It'wauld be nice to leave a pedestrian access to Bay Heights at Tigertail. We would also favor an earlier proposal to close those entrances to this residential neighborhood that enter U.S. #1 at Alatka and Hallassee Streets. The great amount of nonresidential traffic through this neighborhood is much deplored by many of us living in rratana M,aners. Yours sincerely, Donald C. Southern City Clerk City of Miami Miami, Pia. Dear Mr. Southern: TIECIVE'D 175 MAY 9 C'it + C 9 H.D.S U1tiL;4 ITY CLERK CITY OP MIAMI, Et.A. May <, 1075 1t has come to my attention that a few residents of Bay Heights have made attempts to persuade us of the virtues of closing the Tiger Tail entrance to this area. Some residents of our area object to the traffic flow of some south bound motorists who enter at the Miami Ave entrance and exit at Tiger Tail. If, in fact, it can be demonstrated that the present flow of traffic is a danger, then I submit that a more feasible approach would be to close the Miami Avenue entrance which is being used to gain entrance to the area by this ob- jectionable traffic. It has also been suggested that a single entrance manned by guards would provide excellent security to the neighborhood. As a Bay Heights resident of 18 years, I would. not care for a "Fortress Bay Heights" type of living area. Also I doubt that this would really be an effective deterrent. I respectfully request that my opinion be recorded as opposition to the closing of the Tiger Tail entrance to Bay Heights. 165 Shore Drive South, Miami, Fla. 33133 7 Yo(urrs/ery trul Sidney Goldton s Ds Southern, City Olork The City, of Miami, Miami, Pies bear Sir, Plata R$ atty geights Mist', Pitts 331,3 M&y 1St 1975s City+ Commission Meeting M&.y 8th 19751 closing TiRerteil Avenues As long time residents of Bs y Heights, we are against the closing of the Tigertail Avenue entrance and leafing the Miami Avenue entrance open, Miami Avenue is a very dangerous intersection, especially in rush hour traffic. Southern City Clerk City of'Miami Mid., Pt 331.33 Oent1emens r support the proposed, widening of one lane of South Dayshore Drive from Alatea to 17th Avenue, t oppose the closing of the Tic ertsil Avenue entrance to Day Heights for the following: reasons 1. It would greatly increase the distance from the Oak Street rife Station to my home. 2. 'It would hamper mail deliveries from the Coconut Grove Post Office. It would funnel all Bay Heights traffic into the dangerous blind entrance from Samana to South Bayshore Drive. If the Tigertail entrance must be closed, this should not be done until a traffic light is installed at South Bayshore Drive at Samana Drive. Very truly yours, " ' Gr H.
