Mr. Clifton Hayes
Deputy City Manager
City 1`nagers Office
City Hall
Coconut Grove, Florida
Dear Mr. Hayes:
I am writing to you at the suggestion of Miss Elizabeth Bush.
We have reserved the dates of Pay 30th and May 31, 1975 through
the good offices of Miss Bush to have our annual rare fruit tree
sale at the Dinner Key Auditorium. We are desirous of using
the facility on a complimentary basis because of the service we
have perforated for the Community to this elate as as what we
propose to do in the future. We hzse the preceeding statement
upon the following:
Quoting fwin our Constitution, Article II object
"To be an active, non-profit organization dedicated
to promoting the progress of tropical poirnlogy in
areas of the world suitable for this purpose; to
introduce propagate, and distribute new species,
unproved varities, mutations and cloves of fruit
plants;" I am enclosing our year book for 1974 and
you may read the balance of our objective.
For the past 20 years dedicated local citizens have given of their
time and money to further the interests of this organization until
today we have a current membership of:
Florida - 680
Other States 62
Foreign 51
793 Members
We have been meeting at the Museum of Science grounds, but for
the following reasons we would like to use your facilities.
1. The Museum grounds are very limited in space.
2. This sale is our only means of raising funds to
further the course of Pare Fruit in Southern
Florida. If ‘NI ran into a downpour our sale with
all the planning and great effort would be wasted.
"'c need a covered space.
(continued)
3. Decause of the n-:ed for greater protection for otit
vary salable plants which are valuable because they
are unusual. You will agree that your building
would afford a greater degree of safety,
4. The location is quite central and is not far from
our previous sale site.
5. We have an especial reason for needing the greatest
Pare Fruit Plant sale ever this year, because after
a lorncj tire of discussion, the United States Government
is permitting us to use an area of land at the
Department of Agriculture
Agriculture Pesearch Service
Crops Research Division
Plant Introduction Station
13601 Old Cutler Roacl
for the purpose of introducing, researching and growing of rare
fruit trees. This, of course costs money, because we have to clear
the land and do all development ourselves. All this calls for
rroney that must and only cores fruits the Annnal Pare Fruit Tree Sale.
All trees are gro;ri by our renhers at their expense and donated to
the Annnal Pare Fruit Tree Sale.
You will have the gratitude of almost 800 of your neighbors Who
are Pere Fruit Merbers plus rrany hundreds of Dade County Citizens
who have cone to learn, like and depend on our Anntn1 Rare Fruit
Tree Sale.
We solicit your favorable consideration.
I ani,
Sincerely r
