A RESOLUTION APPROVING A SIXTY (60) DAY
EXTENSION OF EMPLOYMENT PAST THE AGE OF
SEVENTY (70) FOR.JOHN WHALING, CLERK III,
SANITATION DEPARTMENT, EFFECTIVE JANU-
ARY 29, 1975 THROUGH MARCH 29, 1975,
WITH THE PROVISION THAT IN THE EVENT OF
A ROLLBACK OR LAYOFF, MR. WHALING,
RATHER THAN A JUNIOR EMPLOYEE, WOULD BE
AFFECTED.
WHEREAS, the Executive Secretary, Civil Service
Board, on February 4, 1975, unanimously recommended the
approval of employment past the age of seventy (70) for
JOHN WHALING, Clerk III, Sanitation Department; and
WHEREAS, the City Physician has determined that
the physical condition of said JOHN WHALING is satisfactory
for continued employment;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORI DA :
Section 1. A sixty (60) day extension of employ-
ment past the age of seventy (70) for JOHN WHALING, Clerk
III, Sanitation Department be, and is hereby, authorized
effective January 29, 1975 through March 29, 1975, with
the provision that in the event of a rollback or layoff,
Mr. Whaling, rather than a junior employee, would be affected.

At its sreeting of r'ebruary 4, 1975, the Civil Service Board considered the request
of John Whaling, Account Clerk, Department of Sanitation, for an extension of employ-
ment for a period of sixty (60) days, to be effective January 29, 1975 through March 29,
1975.
The Board noted that Mr. C. R. Jones, Director, Department of Sanitation, has recom-
mended approval of this request, and that Dr. L. A. Toto, City Physician, has found
Mr. Whaling physically qualified to continue employment for the additional sixty (60)
days.
The Board voted unanimously to approve the request, with the provision that in the
event of a rollback or layoff, Mr. whaling, rather than a junior employee, would be
affected, noting this is in accordance with past policy.

Employment beyond Age 70

On January 29, 1975, Mr. John Whaling, Account Clerk,
will attain the age of 70. According to the retirement
ordinance, in order to continue active service, it is
necessary that the Civil Service Board approve extension
of service beyond age 70.
I am requesting an extension of sixty (60) clays for Mr.
Whaling. His work is satisfactory, and he has been
medically qualified for the extension.

Mr. Whaling was examined on 1-14-75 and the following
conditions were found:
Mild diabetes -diet controlled.
Mild general arteriosclerosis.
Uncorrected distance vision, left eye.
Advised to see his eye doctor.
There is no reason why this man cannot continue to
work for another 60 days.
