S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has imposed a policy which Prohibits the construction of federally sponsored public housing in the central area of the City of i•'ica..mi and Dade County*, Florida; and WHEREAS, there exists a current backlog of over 16,000 applications from medium and low income families in need of public housing; and WHEREAS, the Niami community has been cooperatively and diligently working with federal assistance to provide for the public housing needs and has established a long range program vital to filling these needs as a part of the City of Miami's Comprehensive i:eighoorhood Development Program; and WHEREAS, the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development noise pollution policy criteria has brought to a virtual hilt this Public housing program in the City of I:iai !; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COJ. ESSIOPI OF THE CITY OF MIA1.1, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the City of Miami hereby expresses its objection to the present U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's policy which prohibits the construction of federally sponsored public housing in the vast central section of the most densely populated area of Dade County. Section 2. That the City of Miami hereby strongly urges that the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development revise its policy as to aircraft flyover noise so that feller �l1y fundedpublic housing facilities may be constructed in this area S•;hieh so ur7ently iN in need of such facilities.
