Mrs. Lichtensteint l have a question. you mentioned the compact cars that can utilze the parking Stalls * * you don't mention a Mustang, a Ford [ustang. I would think that it would fit in there. Mr. Schwartz: We calculated theme figures on '74 and I believe the Mustang IX is a '75 - it would meet the dimensional requirements I'M sure. I think it's just an oversight. Mr. Schwartz's written comments are copied and inserted into these minutest 'OFF-STREET PARKING AND ZONING The proposed amendment to ARTICLE XXIII - Off -Street Parking and Loading provisions of the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance which will increase the percentage of parking stalls that can be devoted to compact vehicles from 15 to 25% and to increase the size of the compact parking stall from 16' - 17' feet in length will provide standards which will be more responsive to the present and future needs of the community. During the last few years there has been a dramatic trans- formation within the automobileindustry resulting in an increasing production of smaller vehicles. In the first six months of 1974 small car sales represented 42% of all car sales nationally. Sale of 1975 vehicles have followed this trend. It is estimated that over 25% of all registered vehicles in Dade County could utilize the existing compact car stall, with the addition of one foot in length over 40% of all vehicles would be able to utilize this space. Benefits to be derived from these modifications include: - a lessening of the amount of total area that is consumed by on -site parking. Throughout Miami the large expanses of surface parking provide both a visual and functional barrier within the community. - - example Little River, Little Havana, CBD - - lower the coat to builders in developing parking area - - encourage the purchase of smaller vehicles which will be consistent with federal policy.' Mrs. Rockefeller: If there are no more questions or discussion we will entertain a notion at this time. -27- November 6, 1974 Item 5 PAD Mrs, Barb: i move that we recommend the amendment to Ordinance 6871 by atnendin$ ARTICLE =tit- Off -Street Parking and Loading Mrs. Lichtenstein: I second it.
