HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-76-1160so44 RESOLUTION NO, 76-1160 RESOLUTION PLEDGING THE CITY OF MIAMI'S CONTINUED SUPPORT OF THE PRINCIPLES OF THE NATIONAL CONGRESS ON VOLUNTEERISM AND CITIZENSHIP AND THE CITY'S CONTINUED WILLING- NESS TO DO EVERYTHING IN ITS POWER TO ENCOURAGE AND SUPPORT THE ACTIVE PARTICIPATION OF ITS CITIZENS IN SHAPING THE COMMUNITY'S FUTURE. WHEREAS, the National Congress on Volunteerism and ItiZenship is a vehicle for the expression and resolution of 3 Citizen concerns through voluntary action; and WHEREAS, the National Congress affords every citizen an opportunity to speak out and be heard on local and national problems and contribute to their solution; and WHEREAS, the National Congress is a non-profit, non- . partisan organization established to stimulate and strengthen Problem solving by volunteers and voluntary organizations; and WHEREAS, the National Congress bridges the gap between the individual, the service organizations, the community, and the government; and WHEREAS, this is an essentialliakevrtior* of the people, and for the people; and 7 ITEM WHEREAS, the Bicentennialcelebration has brought about the participation of citizens in community and government affairs and the City Commission finds this to be the most significant out- growth of the Bicentennial era: a time for a great resurgence of the American spirit and the beginning of a second American Revolu- tion, "a revolution not of violence, but of fulfillment, of fresh purposes, and of new directions"; and WHEREAS, the local Forum of the National Congress was beld in Miami on May 11, 1976; and WHEREAS, this was followed by a District Forum held n September 27, 1976; and 1••••••••••••....M... CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF DEC i 6 1976 RESOEUTION REMARKS. • V tAS, tine City a Miami has established an "AttiVe Min program and Dr, Aurea Poggio will be working directly with Mora Swan in coordinating the Volunteerism Program; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami has lent its support to the stational Congress by establishing a central office that will act as the liaison between national service organizations and Voluntary associations and the City of Miami; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City of Miami hereby pledges its Continued support of the principles of the National Congress on Volunteerism and Citizenship and its continued willingness to do everything in its power to encourage and support the active participation of its citizens in shaping the community's PASSED AND ADOPTED this 16 day of n uECE-MBER 1976..
