'OR FURNISHING THE PARKS AND RECREATION
DEPARTMENT WITH EQUIPMENT: BID OF PERFORM-
ANCE MARINE FOR FURNISHING 6 SAILBOATS AT
A TOTAL COST OF $5,604; BID OF FLAGHOUSE,
INC. FOR FURNISHING 6 SPINNAKER SAILS AT A
TOTAL COST OF $624; ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM
THE 1972 PARKS AND RECREATION BOND FUND
AND AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY
MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE PURCHASING 'DEPART-
MENT TO ISSUE PURCHASE ORDERS FOR THIS
EQUIPMENT.
WHEREAS, pursuant to public notice, sealed bids
to received September 20, 1976 for furnishing 6 sailboats
'd 6 spinnaker sails to the Parks and Recreation Department;
and
WHEREAS, invitations were mailed to 17 potential
suppliers and 4 bids were received; and
WHEREAS, funds for this purchase are to be allo-

Section 1. The September 20, 1976 bid received

$5,604, and the bid received from Flaghouse, Inc. for furnish-
ing 6 spinnaker sails, at a total cost of $624 are hereby
accepted; with funds therefor hereby allocated from the 1972
Parks and Recreation Bond Fund,

'Tile Department of Parks and Recreation has, had numerous
`e4uests over the past several years for a year-round sailing
program for all age groups in addition to their annual ten
Week summer program for youth.
At the November 11, 1976 Comhnission meeting, the Department
of Parks and Recreation requested the purchase of 12 sailboats
to augment the sailing program. At this meeting the City Com-
mission requested the Department of Parks and Recreation
.Director to facet with the Coconut Grove Sailing Club to deter -
Mine if they could help conduct this program thus saving the
City funds by rf'ducin,, the: arnont of money necessary to purchase
the sailboats.
A discussion was held with representatives of the Coconut
Grove Sailing Club and they have offered their sailboats and
cooperation in conducting classes for youth and adults in the
south end of the City. Therefore, the Parks and Recreation
Department is now- concerned with the sailing program in the
north end of the City.
Instead of the purchase of 12 sailboats, it is now recommended':'
that si:; boats be purchased to conduct the comprehensive
sailing program in the north end of the City. This will be..
a savings to the City of approximately $6, 200.
