The Public Service Aide Program will provide twenty-five (25)
new jobs for individuals who meet existing federal manpower
requirements which will include that they all be from economi-
cally disadvantaged families. These 18, 19, and 20 year olds
will receive extensive training with the goal of eventually
becoming police officers when they reach the required age.
At the same time they will be providinca a service to the City
of Miami Police Department by handling non -enforcement calls -
for -service, thus freeing uniform police officers to handle
their assigned street duties.
The Public Service Aide Program has proven to be a vital and
integral part of the Miami Police Department and therefore it
is appropriate for the City Commission to authorize the City'.
Manager to enter into the proposed agreement.
