Notification Center
POtOtWett
The Underground Utilities Notification Center is a one -number call
bureau created to supply information as to the location of under-
ground facilities of participating members to anyone who wishes to
perform excavations in the public right-of-way. Southern Bell
Telephone, American Tc 1cI.hone, Fler:ida Gas, Peoples Gas, Metrop-
olitan Dade County Public 1%orks and Traffic and Transportation and
the City of Miami are members of this agency. A teletype communi-
cation link has been established by the center and each participati.nr;
member. I°onthl,y ;,ervice charges are pro -rated among the members on
the basis of the monthly teletype cost and the number of miles of
underground facilities each participant has in place. Although the
City has not executed a formal agreement, it has been participating
since the center opened. on April 1, 197E.
In October, 1975 the City Comm ssior by Resolution 75-976 authorized
the City Manager to enter into a contract for membership with this
organization, subject to the cost not exceeding $2,500 for the 1976
membership. Resolution 75-1080 provided the necessary funds for
this membership.
A legal interpretation of one section prevented the City from signing
a contract for membership. This problem has been resolved and the
contract is ready for execution.
