HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-76-0998"SUPPCPT!V,1 E FOLLOW" .JVV City Ot8OLUVION NO. 76 998 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF MIAMI TO ACCEPT, EITHER PERSONALLY OR THROUGH HIS DESIGNEE, ALL CONTRIBU' TIONS OF MONEY AND/OR PROPERTY FROM WHATEVER SOURCEp POR THE PURPOSE OF SPONSORING THE LATIN AMERICAN TRADE EXHIBITION TO BE HELD IN THE YEARS 1977-78; FURTHER INSTRUCTING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPLY FOR AND RECEIVE FINANCIAL AID IN SUPPORT OF THE ABOVE PROJECT FROM THE FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS, PLACING WHATEVER MONEYS THAT MAY BE RECEIVED INTO SPECIALLY DESIGNATED ACCOUNTS IN THE GENERAL TREASURY OF THE CITY OF MIAMI; FURTHER AUTHORIZING AND INSTRUCTING THE CITY MANAGER TO ESTABLISH A LATIN AMERICAN TRADE EXHIBITION TRUST AND AGENCY FUND BY SETTING UP A SEPARATE TRUST AND AGENCY FUND WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI ACCOUNTS AND PLACING THEREIN WHATEVER CONTRIBUTIONS MAY BE RECEIVED FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC; FURTHER PROVIDING THAT THE SAID FUND BE APPLIED SOLELY TOWARD THE LATIN AMERICAN TRADE EXHIBITION. __ ______. "DOCUMENT INDEX !f ITEM N0._`J.1 �---- WHEREAS, the City Charter expressly authorizes "to do all things whatsoever necessary or expedient for promoting or maintaining...trade, commerce or industries of the City or its inhabitants" [Sec. 3(z)]; and WHEREAS, the City Charter also expressly authorizes acquisition of real or personal property, or any estate or interest therein, and also expressly authorizes the disposition of said property or any part thereof [Sec. 3(f)]; and WHEREAS, the City Commission has undertaken the project of attempting to have the City of Miami sponsor the Latin American Trade Exhibition, tentatively scheduled to be held during the final month of 1977 and the spring of 1978; and WHEREAS, the enormity of the above project requires that funding be obtained from other governmental units at the federal, state and county levels; and WHEREAS, the project costs will also require contribu- tions from the general public; and WHEREAS, an active campaign to receive support from he public and from other governmental units must be mounted in the immediate future; and CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF NOV .. 1976 - 'HEREAH, the City Charter etpreesly authorizes the Manager to perform whatever duties as may be required of hilt by ordinance or resolution of the City Commission; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OP THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to accept, on behalf of the City of Miami, Florida, either personally or through his designated representative, all contributions of money and/or property from whatever source for the purpose of promoting the City of Miami's sponsorship of the Latin American Trade Exhibition to be held in the years 1977-78. Section 2. The City Manager is hereby instructed and directed to apply for and receive financial aid in support of the above project from the federal, state, and local govern- ments, placing whatever moneys that may be received into specially designated accounts in the general treasury of the City of Miami. Section 3. The City Manager is hereby instructed and directed to establish a Latin American Trade Exhibition Trust and Agency Fund by setting up a separate trust and agency fund within the City of Miami accounts and placing therein whatever contributions may be received from the general public; said fund to be applied solely toward the Latin American Trade Exhibition. This will also allow the disbursing of funds by the City for expenses attributed to the trade fait and its allied activities.
