sA RESOLUTION ORDERING COCONUT GROVE BUSINESS
M A HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENT H-4408 AND DESIGNATING
THE PROPERTY AGAINST WHICH SPECIAL ASSESSMENTS
SHALL BE MADE FOR A PORTION OF THE COST THEREOF
AS COCONUT GROVE BUSINESS AREA HIGHWAY I1PROVE,.
MENT DISTRICT H-4408; AND ALLOCATING THE AMOUNT
OF $5,000 FROM THE HIGHWAY BOND FUND FOR THE
PRELIMINARY EXPENSES.
WHEREAS, Main Highway between McFarlane Road and
Franklin Avenue, Grand Avenue between Mary Street and McDonald
Street, Commodore Plaza between Grand Avenue and Main Highway,
and Fuller Street make up most of the business area of Coconut
Grove; and
WHEREAS, the sidewalks are in poor to fair condition
and combined with the lack of landscaping give a dilapidated
appearance to the area; and
WHEREAS, the Coconut Grove Area is an historic
tourist attraction and isknown throughout the nation for its
quaint atmosphere; and
WHEREAS, additional landscaping, benches, decorative
sidewalks and crosswalks will upgrade the area and help create
a more casual and relaxed atmosphere which hQ efuall wi(rPromote

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI , FLORIDA:
Section 1. A local improvement described as COCONUT
GROVE BUSINESS AREA HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENT H-4408 is hereby ordered
to be made under the authority of Section 56 of the Charter of the
City of Miami, as amended, to be located within the City of Miami,
as follows:
that portion of Main Highway lying between McFarlane
Road and Franklin Avenue; that portion of Grand Avenue
lying between Mary Street and McDonald Street; that
portion of Commodore Plaza lying between Grand Avenue
and Main Highway; and that portion of Fuller Street
lying between Grand Avenue and Main Highway;
necessary intersections and returns,

epladefnent of the existing sidewalk with a decorative
drfaded 4" and 6" sidewalk including new 6" curb and gutter,
landscaped planter areas, trees in the sidewalk area (with
grates), street benches and decorative cross -walks. Adjust
rent of drainage structures and pavement adjustment may be
necessary. All the work will be done as specified and
described in the Standard City of Miami Specifications for
Public Works Projects.
Section 3. This Improvement shall be designated
in all proceedings and assessments as COCONUT GROVE BUSINESS
AREA HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENT H-4408 and the property abutting upon
such Improvement and against which special assessments shall
be made for a portion of the cost thereof is hereby designated
as COCONUT GROVE BUSINESS AREA HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT H-4408.
Section 4. The sum of $5,000 is hereby allocated
from the Highway Bond Fund for preliminary expense herein.

Plans and specifications are being prepared to replace the
existing sidewalks in the Coconut Grove Business Area with a
decorative, surfaced sidewalk i'ic'i.u;.1in ; new curb and gutter,
landscaped planter areas, trees in the sidewalk area (with
grates), street benches and decorative cross walks. Adjust

The construction will be limited to Main Highway from
McFarlane Road to Franklin Avenue, Grand Avenue between
Mary Street and McD,nald Street, Commodore Plaza between
Grand Avenue and Main Highway , and Fuller Street between
Grand Avenue and Main Hig;h;:a.,•.
Funds are available from the H ighway General Obligation Bon
Fund and the work will be assessed to the abutting propert
owners.
