HomeMy WebLinkAboutM-76-1029WHtkLAS the National Congress en VOlutiteetitM aid tititenthip i a Vehicle fet the eXpteagitin And teSOlution of cititen conteths thtough Voluntary aCtion,and WHEktAS the National Congress affords every cititeh dh opportunity to speak out and be heard on local and national problems and contribute to theit SO1Utidh, and WHEREAS the National Congress is a not-torOfit, tbti- partisan organization established to stimulate and Strengthen problem solving by volunteers and voluntary organizations, and WHEREAS the National Congress bridges the gap between the individual, the service organizations, the community, and the government, and WHEREAS this is an essential part of government of the people, and for the people, and WHEREAS the Bicentennial celebration has brought about the participation of citizens in community and government affairs and we see this to be the most significant out growth of the Bicentennial era, a time for a great resurgence of the American spirit and the beginning of a second American Revolution "a revolution not of violence, but of fulfillment, of fresh purposes, and of new directions and WHEREAS the local Forum of the National Congress was held in Miami on May 12, 1976, and WHEREAS this was followed by a district Forum held on !,L-ntumber 2;. 19'20. an,;. WHEREAS the City of Miami has established an Active ifl 'Miami program and Dr. Aurea Poggio will he working direttl% with me in coordinatirw the Volunteerism Program, and .WHEREAS the City of Miami has lent its support to the ..:National Congress by establishing a central office that would act as the liaison between the national service ,..organizations and voluntary associations and the City of Miami, THEREFORE be it resolved that the City of Miami supports the principles of the National Congress on Volunteerism and Citizenship and will do everything in its power to encourage and support the active participation of its citizens in shaping the community's future.
