Box 330708 Miami, Fla. 33133 Ladies and Gentlemen: I wish to appear before the Mia+ni City Commission on its October 14, 1976 meeting to voice my complaint about the City of Miami's continuing effort to install throughout the city the High Pressure Sodium Vapor (HPSV) lighting, which is destroying the night-time beauty of our city, possibly endangering plant life and wasting vast amounts of electric energy. I am the first to concede that there may be some areas such as commercial or warehouse districts, streets and high crime areas, where better lighting may provide benefits that outweigh the costs, however it is a travesty to suggest that all of our city should be bathed in the wasteful, erie, orange glow such that it lights up the very heavens. I feel the city and media have not accurately reported the increased costs of the light lighting system to the citi- zenry. While stating that these HPSV lamps give more light per watt they neglect to note that every time one is instal- led there is profit to FPL Co. for the installation plus a doubling of electrical consumption from 200 W for the original mercury vapor lanip to 400 W for the HPSV. I have seen many changes both bad and good in my city of Miami in the 33 years I have lived here and I must say this proposed event can only hurry the demise oc the Magic City.
