HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-76-0867RPC/rb 10/5/76 RESOLUTION NO. 76-3e7 A RESOLUTION CERTIFYING AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE SPECIAL CHARTER AMENDMENT ELECTION HELD ON SEPTEMBER 28, 1976, FOR THE PURPOSE OF VOTING FOR THE RATIFICATION OR REJECTION OF THE FOLLOWING QUESTION: "SHALL SECTION 4(h) OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, BE AMENDED TO PROVIDE FOR AN INCREASE IN THE SALARIES TO BE PAID TO CITY COMMISSIONERS FROM THE $5,000 PREVIOUSLY ESTABLISHED in 1949 TO $12,000 ANNUALLY EFFECTIVE NOVEM- BER 10, 1977 AND FOR AN INCREASE IN THE SALARY OF THE MAYOR -COMMISSIONER FROM THE $5,000 PREVIOUSLY ESTABLISHED IN 1949 TO $15,000 ANNUALLY, EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 10, 1977?" AS BEING A REJECTION OF THE PROPOSED AMENDMENT. WHEREAS, by Resolution No. 76-665, passed and adopted July 1, 1976, the Commission of the City of Miami, Florida, called and provided for a special municipal election to be held in said City on September 28, 1976, for the purpose of submitting the following question to the duly registered and qualified elec- tors of the City of Miami for their ratification or rejection: and Shall Section 4(h) of the Charter of the City of Miami, Florida, be amended to provide for an increase in the salaries to be paid to City Commissioners from the $5,000 previously established in 1949 to $12,000 annually effective November 10, 1977 and for an increase in the salary of the Mayor -Commissioner from the $5,000 previously established in 1949 to $15,000 annually, effective November 10, 1977? WHEREAS, the inspectors and clerks of each precinct in the City have made returns to the Commission on the results of the election in each such precinct on each of the questions submitted at said election, and the returns of said election have been delivered and canvassed by the Commission in accordance with State law; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Commission hereby finds, ratifies, and declares the results of the special municipal election held on September 28, 1976, to be as follows: ballots: That on the following question proposed on the Shall Section 4(h) of the Charter of the City of Miami, Florida, be amended to provide for an increase in the salaries to be paid to City Commissioners from the $5,000 previously established in 1949 to $12,000 annually effective November 10, 1977 and for an increase in the salary of the Mayor -Commissioner from the $5,000 previously established in 1949 to $15,000 annually, effective November 10, 1977? there were 4,463 votes cast for approval of the question, and 10,699 votes cast against approval of the question, and the Commission hereby declares and certifies that said question was rejected and disapproved by the electorate; further, the Commission hereby declares that the total number of ballots cast at said election in the 87 voting precincts was 23,585. Section 2. The Commission also hereby finds: (a) said election was duly and properly held and notice thereof was duly given in accordance with law; (b) all steps in connection with and leading up to said special election were duly, regularly and lawfully taken and had; and (c) all applicable provisions of the Constitution and Statutes of the State of Florida and of said Resolution have been complied with. Section 3. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to perform any and all incidental duties in connection herewith as required by law. PASSED AND ADOPTED this_aaL day of OCTDRFR , 1976.
