E.D.A. Bayfront Park Project
On October. 15, 1975 the Economic Development Administration (EDA)
of the U.S. Department of Commerce accepted the City of Miami's
project for redevelopment of a portion of Bayfront Park. The pro-
posed Labor Intensive Project involves the refurbishing of a•portion
of Bayfront Park at an estimated cost of $1 million. Refurbishing
entails landscaping, construction of road and irrigation systems,
installation of park lighting, clearing and grading, and construction
of masonry walls.
Work began on the project. Oh Mat(•h 2 , 1Y76 aud is rr: :;chodu]e. Con-

The total number of employees to date is 16, all of which were unem-
ployed when hired to work on the project. Also, during the course
of the construction, an additional 34 unemployed ]people will be hired
to work on the project. The project now has, and wi11 continue to
have in the future, an important impact upon the City in terms of
providing needed employment opportunities in construction and related
trades, helping to stimulate the revitalization of Downtown Miami,
and providing needed viable recreation and open space areas for both
resident_; and employees of the inner City.
The design of that portion of the Park under the EDA Grant Project
was furnished by Edward D. Stone, Jr., and Associates, consistent
with their design recommendations for the remainder of the North
Portion of. the Park.
Funding of the project is being provided through an Economic Devel-
opment Administration Title X Grant, in the amount. of $300,000 with
local matching funds from the. City of Miami's Parks for People Bond
Program in the amount of $700,000. EDA Grant Funds received to date
on the project total $150,000 with $23,346 having been expended as
of June 2, 1976. At least. 75C• of the total project fur:cls gust be
