MAY 2 8 IP6 (=1Lt: SUEJEct: Selection of External Auditor REFERENCES: ENCLOSURtS: On April 22, 1976, the City Commission passed Motion No. `76-403: "MOTION OF INTENT TO CHANGE EVERY THREE YEARS THE FIRMS PERFORMING THE EXTERNAL AUDIT FOR THE CITY OF MIAMI, AND REQUESTING THE CITY MANAGER, AT THE NEXT REGULAR MEETING OF THE COMMISSION, TO SUBMIT THE NAMES OF THREE AUDITING FIRMS IN ORDER THAT THE COMMISSION MAY SELECT ONE OF THE THREE TO PERFORM THIS AUDIT FOR THE CITY AT THE EXPIRATION OF THE PRESENT AUDITOR's CONTRACT." Subsequent to the action taken by the City Commission, a request for proposals to conduct the external audit was placed in the local newspapers in order to provide for a comprehensive search of all qualified interested CPA firms in the City of Miami to conduct the external audit for the fiscal year ending September 1976. The following firms submitted proposals to the City of Miami: Alexander Grant & Co. Arthur Andersen & Co. Arthur Young & Co. Coopers & Lybrand Ernst & Ernst Haskins & Sells Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. Price, Waterhouse & Co. During the weeks of May 3 and May 10, the firms visited the City of Miami to acquaint themselves with the City's financial system. On May 2n and 21, the External Auditor, the two Assistant Directors of Finance, the Director: of Finance., and the !Assistant City Manager for Administrative Services interviewed all applicants that had submitted proposals to the City of Miami. — Honorable Membetlof the City CoMmistr A MAY 2 8 VG Vihal review was cohdncted on Monday, May 24, and the City Manager is hereby providing the following three firths. These firms haVe not been ranked, but ate being provided alphabetically to the City Cottission in order that the City Manager may then negotiate with the firm selected to conduct the external audit for the City of Miami.
