W. Andrews REFERENCES: City Manager ENCLOSURES The May 13th. Commission Agenda contains two resolutions which will con- firm my actions in submitting two applications to the State of Florida, - Retardation Program Office requesting funds for our recreational programs for the handicapped. One application -Community Retardation Services- requests a sum of $12,444 to hire a Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator to assist in the overall ad- ministration of our handicapped program. The City has requested a waiver of the match requirement which, if approved, would allow this position to be completely funded with State of Florida funds. The second application -Recreational Programs for Mentally Retarded Adults- requests a sum of $102,960 to provide evening and weekend recreational pro- grams for the mentally retarded adults. These programs mill be conducted in our parks and in several group homes for the retarded located within the City. An estimated 200 adults will receive service during the period September 1976 to June 30, 1977. City cash required for matching purposes is $3,000. In submitting this application I am anticipating that $3,000 will be available in next year's budget. This $3,000 would enable us to obtain $102,960 in federal funds.
