THE MISSION OFTHE ORGANIZATION IS TO UTILIZE CHEER A3ACATALYST TO EMPOWER YOUNG GIRLS TO ACHIEVE ACADEMICALLY, SOCIALLY, PHYSICALLY AND CULTURALLY. The z0zeO23season marks our 20' year serving our community. PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY Participants must be 8-18 years of age. The enrollee must agree to sign a performance contract agreeing to maintain a 3.0 (B) grade point average in all subjects and conduct, per academic year. Since 2004, The Prymus Angels Teams have consistently remained above average. HOW IT WORKS Under the guidance of the founders, tutors and coaches, the organization participants receive instruction in: • Team Building • Conflict Resolution • Etiquette • Health & Wellness • Community Service • Test Taking Strategies • Skill Coverage for FSA, ACT & SAT's Prior to Covid, each season started with planting a seed of college life. Angels attended a summer college camp for 2 nights and 3 days. Each Angel stayed in an actual dorm room, ate at the campus cafeteria, attended classes for cheer technique, and walked amongst summer season college students and student athletes. This was the beginning of the Angel's understanding of what is yet to come. 3 Since Covid, we have been monitoring when it may be safe to return to the on -campus experience. In place of this vital experience, we work with the colleges and universities we visit to give our students a peek into the life of a college student in ways beyond just a tour by an admissions representative. We have been able to arrange meet & greets with student athletes, tours of the dormitory where our students can meet with dorm residents, meals in the campus dining hall, participation in a campus athletics event as cheerleaders, and a session of a freshman experience course taught to our students. 4 During the season, practices take place Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5:45 p.m. — 8:00 p.m. at Jose Marti Gymnasium. Two Saturdays a month our students are at TumbleBees Gymnastics Gym in South Miami. One of the most important changes we were able to make with increased funding/donations is the expansion of tumbling practice from 1 session a month to 2 sessions. It has been vital in elevating the skill level and skill mastery of our students. 5 To ensure that each Angel is achieving her best academically and meeting the standard set in the team agreement, each weekday practice during the school year is preceded by tutoring from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. During the summer, tutoring continues but shifts to once a week with a focus on reading enhancement and standardized test preparation. Traveling with the Prymus Angels is not a reason to fall behind on school work. Students are expected to bring materials to keep up with assignments on all trips. We know that food fuels the body and mind so to ensure that each Angel is at tutoring and practice, ready to do her best, we provide nutritious snacks plus water prior to tutoring and after practice. We also ask Angels to observe some simple rules to improve their nutrition and benefit their health: 1. No eating at fast food restaurants that only serve fries as a side item. Angels cannot order fries. Other items — baked potatoes, side salads, and fruit — are acceptable replacements. 2. Each dinner meal should contain a salad. 3. Angels should drink plenty of water. 7 In addition to the time commitment for tutoring and practices, Angels give an additional Saturday each month towards college tours and cheer competitions. We select competitions to participate in that allow us to tour 2-3 college campuses during our travels. When visiting colleges and universities that former Angels attend, we take the time for our former Angels to speak with us, eat with us and share their experiences while in school. Many also speak about how the program has helped them up to this point. We want to reinforce to the Angels that our guidelines have a purpose in shaping their future. While the college tours themselves are informational and help educate the Angel about the process of selecting and applying to college, we design these trips to begin cultivating the soft skills students need to be successful in college. Having our Angels be able to persist thru to graduation once in the college or university of their choice is very important. Many things we implement throughout the season are done to help them adapt to college life: Limit cell phone usage to be fully present and committed to the experience at hand. Budget funds given to cover their expenses. Balance available optional social activities with the need to complete assignments, get rest and rise early. Maintain their shared living spaces in a clean and sanitary manner. Students submit room check 8 pictures of all living spaces to ensure that they have met this goal. • Display etiquette and good social graces to be a memorable and desirable future student such that someone would not mind going out of their way to help you. Because of the positive impressions made by our Angels, we have been able to match each Angel with a person at their school of choice who acts as an extension of the Prymus Angels family — providing support and information to the Angel and her family as she navigates from college acceptance to graduation. During these trips, we also have team talks. This is a part of allowing them to voice their thoughts on any and every subject they feel compelled to speak on. A part of the contract gives permission for conversations concerning sex and all areas concerning it. Nothing is sugar coated or not said. If it is asked, it is answered. "What are healthy relationships? Why do I need to know that? What is domestic violence? How should I handle it if it comes about in my life? Who do I talk to in college when I need help?" These conversations are crucial in developing emotionally intelligent young people who are as committed to their mental & emotional well-being as they are to achieving a 3.0 g.p.a. or high marks on a cheer skill. 9 On Saturdays that we are not travelling for college visits or competitions, we participate in events, functions, and performances to enhance our community. In one major community service event, we partner with Diamond Cheer and Dance — who are always our first competition of the season -- and Zonta Club of Greater Miami to collect donated toys for children in Safe Space Shelter (a domestic violence shelter) and Our Kids of Miami -Dade and Monroe (an organization serving children in the foster care system). Our season ends with our Awards dinner for the Angels that make it to the end. During this dinner, each Angel is celebrated for her participation in the program as well as her academic achievements, cheer skill achievements, and team voted categories. Many of the program's supporters join us as we celebrate the Angels' achievements with their family and friends. 10 WE DON'T STOP THERE In addition to funding the major program endeavors mentioned, we cover: Standardized testing fees for our freshman through senior high school students when not covered by fee waivers. • College application fees, college try -out fees. • Laptops for Internet assignments and virtual school classes • Seniors travel to and from their first -choice college. Our commitment to seeing Angels attend college does not end when their acceptance letters arrive. We provide: • Travel scholarships for those attending college out of state. • Book scholarships to defray the costs of college texts. • Emergency assistance for deposits and other fees not covered by financial aid. 11 PRYMUS ANGELS ALUMNI We currently have Angels that are attending/have attended college at: • Bethune-Cookman University • Florida A & M University • Florida Atlantic University • Florida International University • Florida State University • Miami Dade School of Nursing • Morgan State University • Notre Dame of Maryland University • The University of Central Florida • The University of South Florida • University of Miami Gabriella Calderon Graduate of UCF Jomarie Santiago, Graduated from FAMU There are Angels that are now doctors, lawyers, nurses, teachers, engineers, designers, business owners, marketing and technology directors and so many more! Prymus, the Angels embody perseverance, discipline and hard work. The success of their team is demonstrated not just by how talented these Young Ladies are but also their incredible attitudes towards life. I am proud to have supported them over the years and look forward too many more generations of Prymus Angels in The City of Miami."— Francis Suarez, Mayor, City of Miami "I've been a part of the Prymus Angels All -Stars for 4 years now, each year has been amazing. The program has benefited me with not only becoming a better cheerleader but also with becoming a better me. It's important to me because of the bonds I've made throughout the years." — Nyah Solano, 2017-2018 Team Captain, Prymus Angels "As a Prymus Angel Cheerleader, I learned that for something to work, it's not just about the skills you have, but about how much love you have for it, how much dedication and effort you put into it, and how much help and support you give your teammates." — Anite Coro, Prymus Angels Alumni, Marketing and Technology Director, Zarco Einhorn Salkowski & Brito, P.A. "I am now in graduate school. The first in my family to do so. I wholeheartedly believe if I hadn't cheered with Mrs. B-Prymus and hadn't continued to receive her support even after I left the program 1 wouldn't be embarking on this new chapter. 1 cheered with Ms. B from 1999-2001, and then again from 2002-2003. Since then I have remained involved with the Prymus Angels in a variety of ways including as a chaperone on many of their college trips. Ms. B has been an incredibly influential figure in my life, and one of my biggest supporters. We remain in touch even now as 1 attend the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Denver. Growing up my home life was less than stellar, but through cheerleading and thanks to Ms. B I became more confident in myself and my ability to accomplish my goals. Without Ms. B and my experiences with the Prymus Angels I would not be where I am today." — Mariana Diaz, Prymus Angels Alumni, "As a single parent you constantly worry about your child's future and well-being. You want them to be productive and well-rounded individuals, and that is exactly what the Prymus Angels All -Star Program has offered my daughter, empowerment to become better at her craft. The Prymus 13 Angels All -Star Program is a safe haven for my daughter for the past four years and I'm truly thankful she continues to be part of the program. — Yadissa Calderon, Procurement, Cyxtera "Being a part of the Prymus Angels All-star family has immensely contributed to molding me into becoming the strong individual I am today. I am about to start my freshman year in the University of Central Florida and it would not have been possible without being a member of this team. The college tours along with the life lessons we gain throughout the program has guided me towards a successful future and has brought out the determined, responsible, and committed individual that I always aimed to be. For that, I am eternally grateful." — Gabriella Calderon, Prymus Angels Alumni, graduate of the University of Central Florida "The Prymus Angels are a Gem in the Cheer Community. Mrs. Prymus continues to be a blessing to every young lady she has coached. The program is deeper than Cheerleading; its standards are a way of life. This program molded me into the woman I am today, fearless and determined." — Giovanniela Sanchez, Prymus Angels Alumni "The Prymus Angels program has molded me into the young woman I am today. I was a part of The Prymus Angels program for 8 years (2007 — 2015). l learned morals and ethics, public speaking, self-respect and team building. / also, thank Mrs. B. Prymus for trusting me to be her team captain the last two years / was there. It helped me learn how to delegate and be a leader. The most important part of the program was helping me get to college, from SAT prep, to applying and selecting schools and finally the transition of moving away to college. / am truly grateful for everything I have benefited greatly from this program!" —Jomarie Santiago, Prymus Angels Alumni, Junior Architecture Major at Florida A & M University "The love, dedication, and privilege Mrs. Prymus bring to this group of young ladies have been such an inspiration to me. It made me want to be a part of what her Cheer program is all about, not only developing cheer skills, but also getting these young ladies to college. The looks on each young lady face when they have been able to not only accomplish the fundamentals of cheering, but the opportunity of a future by going to college, speaks volumes. These two major factors are why I am forever grateful of dedicating my time to The Prymus Angels." — Ms. Janell Flowers, Parent to Prymus Angel Alumni/Current Team Chaperone 14 "My name is Monica Mejia and I am privileged enough to have been a part of Mrs. Prymus organizations from 1998-2005, as a Shenandoah Elementary Brave, Shenandoah Park Golden Panther and Prymus Angel Cheerleader. Mrs. Prymus is much more than a coach to me and so many more young ladies. Personally, she molded me into an amazing athlete and student, to value myself and others, to always dream big and to never give up until / reach my goal! It's ironic to me that wherever 1 go / am always selected as captain or the leader of the staff even in the medical field, but I know that's Mrs. Prymus legacy. I pray that future generations are blessed with more people like her, who truly help inspire them to be as great as can be in every area of their lives, and always smiling. Thank you so much." — Monica Mejia, Prymus Angels Alumni "My introduction to Prymus Angels All Stars came, not from seeing them masterfully execute a cheering routine, but, from meeting Coach Prymus as she took one of her Angels to complete a college application at the university where I work. I was so impressed that by the end of the conversation, 1 agreed to be a continuation of the support that Prymus Angels All -Stars provides for the Angel that is now attending my university." "In addition to my regular job, I teach freshman experience and I work with a mentoring and college prep organization for high school girls, so / jumped at the opportunity to come to Florida and observe how Prymus Angels All Stars creates academically gifted young ladies with sights set on college who happen to also be an award -winning cheer squad. Needless to say, I left with lots of notes." — Crissa Holder Smith Prymus Angels Alumni, Director of Faculty Resource Center, Notre Dame of Maryland University "Prymus Angels started out as a DREAM but changed the REALITY for so many. Prymus Angels equips young women from different cultural, racial and social -economic backgrounds to meet their DESTINY! The Program is uniquely designed to address the educational, social, physical and psychological needs of each participant. Each Angel leaves with the knowledge that they CAN and life is full of POSSIBILITIES!" — Chai Demoulin, Prymus Angels Alumni, Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Equal Opportunity at the University of South Florida. 15 Your contributions & funding contributed to our phenomenal 2022/23 season! • Our team expanded to 22 Angels with 86% of the team residing in the City of Miami. With the wider age range, we had higher uniform costs to stock a variety of sizes and accommodate the growth of our youngest athletes. • We continued the increased Tumblebees sessions. which has allowed the mastery of more complex cheer skills. • We placed 1st in 3 different competitions and 2' in another. We also received an Excellence Award, Travel Award & Sportsmanship Award. • We continued to offer 300 hours of tutoring • Our 2022/23 team once again achieved an overall g.p.a. above 3.0 • We increased our college tours and resumed tours outside of Florida. • -continued 16 Season Successes (continued) • Our junior and senior Angels attended the Dade County Public Schools College & University Fair where they spoke to ambassadors from over 25 post -secondary institutions. • Our Freshman/Sophomore Angels took the ACT test; Junior/Senior Angels took the ACT twice and the SAT once. • We continued to offer the program with $0 in participation fees for the families. Not only do families continue to tell us what a blessing this is, but we have discovered an additional benefit. Removing the difficult conversation surrounding non-payment has strengthened the partnership between staff and parents. Parents reach out more often and sooner for help addressing issues which may be impacting the success of their student. 17 Academic excellence is at the forefront of our program. Included in the contract each athlete signs is the stipulation that the athlete must maintain a 3.0 g.p.a. To support them in attaining this, we have been able to continue the expanded number of tutoring hours at 300. The challenges for our students include: • Covid-related deficits in mastery of content • Learning differences for students with IEPs • English language support for ESL learners at all stages We recognize because of these and other challenges, some of our students did not hit the mark. Each child who does not meet the requirement is evaluated by the staff, taking into consideration information from their school teachers and their parents, to determine next steps. 18 Academic Year Total # of Enrollees: Season GPA: 2022-2023 22 3.19 2021-2022 21 3.08 2020-2021 21 3.11 2019-2020 8 3.84 2018-2019 12 3.62 2017-2018 14 3.54 2016-2017 10 3.83 2015-2016 17 3.32 2014-2015 15 3.43 2013-2014 16 3.24 2012-2013 16 3.50 2011-2012 17 3.20 2010-2011 18 3.79 2009-2010 17 3.00 2008-2009 16 3.17 2007-2008 19 3.50 2006-2007 23 3.40 2005-2006 20 3.30 2004-2005 22 3.45 City of Miami Resident Q1 Q2 Q3 Overall Student 01 3.13 3.00 2.88 3.00 Student 02 3.00 2.89 2.78 2.89 Student 03 3.11 3.11 3.33 3.19 Student 04 2.88 2.38 2.44 2.56 Student 05 3.75 3.63 3.63 3.67 Student 06 4.00 4.00 3.89 3.96 Student 07 3.78 3.89 3.89 3.85 Student 08 2.67 2.67 3.00 2.78 Student 09 3.67 3.44 3.78 3.63 Student 10 2.38 2.75 2.75 2.63 Student 11 3.13 2.63 2.75 2.83 Student 12 2.17 1.83 2.14 2.05 Student 13 3.50 3.14 3.00 3.21 Student 14 3.33 3.33 3.83 3.50 Student 15 3.88 3.75 3.88 3.83 Student 16 3.00 3.13 3.25 3.13 Student 17 2.71 3.00 2.71 2.81 Student 18 3.71 3.71 3.88 3.77 Student 20 3.63 3.25 3.25 3.38 Student 19 no 2.83 2.67 1.67 2.39 Student 21 no 3.63 3.38 3.75 3.58 Student 22 no 3.60 3.40 3.33 3.44 bold 3.0 or above achieved g.p.a. represents an increase from previous term HIGHLIGHTS • 16 students earned 3.0 or above the 1st Quarter; 14 are from the City of Miami • 17 students maintained or saw an increase in g.p.a. from the alto Q2; 15 are from the City of Miami. • 16 students maintained or saw an increase in g.p.a. from Q2 to Q3; 14 are from the City of Miami. • 16 students achieved 3.0 or higher in the third 9-week session; 13 of those are from the City of Miami. • 14 students achieved 3.0 or higher overall for the academic year; 12 of those are from the City of Miami. Many of our students were seeing areas of Florida they had never visited before which broadens their perceptions of the world around them. For some, these trips were their first trips overnight without family. This begins the journey to becoming confidant in their ability to be independent. This sense of independence widens the circle of colleges an athlete will consider. 20 WE PARTICIPATED IN SEVEN COMMUNITY SERVICE/ENRICHMENT EVENTS Why don't we just spend that time practicing tumbling and stunts? We know that instilling a sense of responsibility to their community, and knowledge that they have the power to make a difference for someone creates strong leaders for the future.
