And we are contemplating organizing a Fourth of July Bicenten-
nial Picnic on the most frequently used island (known as Sand
Island) , which 'is just a stone's throw from Pier .1 at Dinner Key,
Also, we are interested in buying a 35f t., shallow draft work
boat* much like the'"Miss Cleanup", that is used in the Miami
River so successfully.
• This type of boat could be used anyplace along our coastline
and would be an effective tool in coastal cleanup.
I
A bout like this could pull alongside the old Coast Guard Base
Seaplane ramp and exactly alongside the City dump true;, for
easy unloading to the trucks.
To do this "Island Project" we need three thousand collars

SUBJECT: A proposal to restore and maintain the fourteen
(14) "Picnic Ic:lands" of Biscayne r3ay, owned by the City
of Miami.
Thin project would employ 3 currently unemployed veterans
on a full time basis, and additionally, the efforts of many
volunteers.
The function of the project would be to
. rack up and bag all trash on these islands, i.e.
broken glass, cans, flotsam and jetsam, ect.
2. the bagged trash to a designated area by boat,
a-,;? picked up by the city dump trucks.
3. ,suil.d trash areas and maintain them. This vou]d pxo--
viee visitors to the islands a means of self policing
the arca and eliminate much of this garbage and ita
random nature.
Q. Organize and involve the }:Dating public that use these
i.:.,lar,u : to help in keeping these islands in a beautifuland nature! (There arc: approximately 37,000 boats
registered in ::ac) County, )
Also, we propose to purchase a surplus 36 foot shallow draft
l;a.vy landing craft* much like "Miss Cleanup" that is used so
siacces:.:. u3 .Ly or, the Miami River. This type of craft could be
u2ed anyw)iel'f? along cur c:o«'.'tline and would be an effective
tool in cr.a ,t:ai cleanup. !: moat like this could pull along:
