Andrews City Manager DATt_: SUBJECT: Feb 2 0 We tLE: Parks Attendant Buildings fEF'ERENCES: ENCLOSURES: Under the Parks for People Bond Program, Task Forces for various park districts recommended the improvements to be placed in each park. In several parks, the construction of a Parks Attendant Building/ Comfort Station was requested. In line with this, bids and contracts were recently awardedfor the construction of such structures in several City of Miami parks. Residents in the vicinity of two bayfront parks, Margaret Pace between N. E. 17 Terrace and 20 Street, and Magnolia between N. E. 36 and 39 Streets, have objected to the location of this type building in these parks. In an effort to overcome this opposition, we have held neighborhood meetings with the area residents regarding these improvements but have been unable to select an alternate location that would be acceptable. In fact, those residents in attendance were unanimous in their objection to the construction of such a building anywhere in the parks and have requested that the contracts be closed out and any money remaining from these contracts be expended on additional landscaping. Inasmuch as the people in the area do not want the building improvements, it is recommended that the Department of Public Works be authorized to negotiate with the contractors for the costs they have already incurred in building these two structures and that the contracts be terminated at this point. Attached for your consideration is a resolution accomplishing this action.
